We then moved to Paris to join the 'Third Generation and Beyond' workshop at Ined to meet researchers doing work on third-generation individuals with a migrant background. Great research, engaging discussions, and promising connections.

We had a busy week. First went to Rotterdam to meet our long term colleague Harry Ganzeboom to work on our Third-Gen Project questionnaire and then attended the ESA RN 22 conference where we presented our 'future' work on intergenerational care.
We are in Belgrade for our @youngliveskcl.bsky.social cross-European symposium on success and equity in the post-16 transitions of young people who donβt go to university. The first day was full of engaging presentations and insightful discussions. Looking forward to the start of the second day.
As part of our ThirdGen Project, we presented in three difference conferences this summer. It was great to connect with other researchers and get constructive feedback on our work in prgoress. third-generation.org/thirdgen-tea...
Today, we had a great session on education and labour market transitions at the RC28 conference. I presented a paper on access to apprenticeships in England from our @youngliveskcl.bsky.social project. It is satisfying to receive good, constructive feedback. Also, great weather and a lovely campus!
Today at #ISAforum2025, our @youngliveskcl.bsky.social team member Rana Khazbak presented our work on young people who do not continue with full time education. Great panel showcasing how longitudinal qual data from India, US, Germany and UK is advancing our understanding of youth transitions.
We had an inspiring session yesterday morning at #ISAforum25 in Rabat! Our panel included papers on migrant socio-economic outcomes and relocation patterns, exploring family and gender effects. Enjoyed presenting our paper, followed by a rich debate by an enthusiastic audience.
Just finished our session this morning at #IMISCOE2025. We had an inspiring discussion with fellow presenters and new connections. Now I can sit back and enjoy the remaining sessions. Nice to be back in a migration conference after a long pause!
Had a very inspiring first day at #IMISCOE2025 with sessions on loneliness in old age and migration and care. On Thursday (July 3rd) I will be presenting our paper on the gendered consequences of migration for occupational attainment in the "Migration and the labour market" panel.
The deadline has been extended!

3οΈβ£Apprenticeship remains an enduringly popular route
despite the societal and school pressures to attend university, but a shortage of places limits take-up.
4οΈβ£The quality varies. Lack of knowledge of what they are entitled to expect raises the prospect of disillusionment for some young apprentices.
1οΈβ£ Apprenticeship continues to languish, not only in the number of starts and overall coverage in relation to other forms of VET, but also in several quality dimensions.
2οΈβ£There is great reliance on employer engagement and incentivisation alone without accompanying strategies to achieve this.
Happy to announce that we have published a new paper on apprenticeships in England.
