Just crossed the 60k mark in my WIP. If I was writing literary fiction I would be done by now.

Reading Infinite Jest and coming to the realisation that DFW was the closest thing to Mervyn Peake modern literature has produced.
Both Enfield and Gormenghast are examined to the point of madness, and both are full of characters that are grotesque.
Just crossed 50k words on my WIP as well as 50 consecutive days writing at least 500 words.
There is no better advice than βwrite every dayβ

I loved Kaho, published in the New Yorker in 2024, so Iβm delighted to hear Murakamiβs next novel shares something of that story.
Loved this essay on Cheever and the New Yorker by @naokan.bsky.social.
Reading long literary essays like this are like revisiting those arguments I had back when I was an MFA student.

Just reused scenes from a draft of a novella I originally wrote in 2014. Donβt ever delete anything.

Eagle-eyes viewers will spot which IRL city the basic geography is based on.
And no one will notice I left No. 5 off the key.

The remnants of the Nightfolk live on one side of the canal while the other is ruled by the Kinless and the Dead.

Thank you. Kind of a dark epic fantasy. In my head itβs A (Dark) Wizard of Earthsea set in an adult version of Garth Nixβs Old
Kingdom
Yesterday I finished the first draft of Part One of my novel:

Great insight into one of the best to ever do it from her own son.
Of particular insight is the point that she was capable of changing and understanding how she had changed (in a way few others are able to or willing to do.)
VAYAL THE HUNTER is a sword and sorcery novella with modern sensibilities (and genderless frog-people(; 35k words currently in late stages of revision

Vayal would have been chieftain, if it wasnβt for his brotherβs betrayal. Now an arrogant exile and mercenary, he finds a way to restore his destiny: slaying the Creature, a shapeshifting demon that destroys villages.
But the Creature is far more devious than he can imagine...

The existential fear of leaving an Excel cell blank can be the greatest tool in a writerβs arsenal.
Only one writing goal this year: finish the first draft of The City of Night.

Hopefully we get Legacies of Betrayal in 2026

This one shows the city itself and its hinterlands, where the greatest concentration of the remnant Nightfolk make their homes.
