It sounds hand-wringingly lefty because it is a universal truth. There is always money for bombs and never money for desperate people
Fletcher travels the world pleading for pennies down the couch so people don’t starve to death. $6bn a year
The US just spent that in five days bombing Iran

Once again, we did not invent concepts like international law and rules of engagement because we’re woke pansy wimps
We developed them because we learned the very worst way, that even the strongest are less safe without them

Am trying to rack my brain about the book to think if it is appropriate, but maybe Anything Goes? Might be open for some satirical commentary.

I think if I'd gotten away with attempting a coup, suffered no consequences for it, then won an election four years later, got away with executing citizens in the streets and foreigners in boats, and successfully abducted a head of state, I too might think I could just bomb my way to regime change

I understand why chatbot cheating happens but every time I read about it I want to gently remind everyone that the point of schoolwork is not for the submission to exist. Teachers are not just greedy for more essays or solved equations. The point is to do the work WITH YOUR OWN BRAIN, FOR LEARNING.

Just a reminder that a bar is a safe consumption site and alcohol caused 17,000 deaths in Canada in 2020. The Ford government closed down the supervised consumption site in my neighbourhood. No matter what the substance, regulated and observed is safer than illicit and alone.

Hey, folks who write seriously about defense. There is no Department of War in the US--that is just a small dick branding exercise. Just as there is no Gulf of America. So, use Dept of Defense until Congress legislates a change.

‘Biblical Diseases’ Could Resurge in Africa, Health Officials Fear
U.S. tax dollars backed the effort to wipe out neglected tropical diseases for 20 yrs. Many countries eliminated 1 disease, and were tantalizingly close on others. Then the U.S. walked away – jeopardizing all that investment, with diseases poised to come roaring back www.nytimes.com/2026/02/03/h...

Every photo from Minneapolis looks like this. Cops decked out with guns and full tac gear facing off against people in bathrobes, parkas, and sweatpants armed only with whistles and cell phones.
Yet every verified MAGA chode on X dutifully calls it a riot or violent insurrection.

This sends a chill across all new vaccines. Companies will not put billions into developing and bringing a new vaccine to market, when the world’s largest market can’t buy them

Thanks, had seen that about mass-market format. I was referencing the trade paperback or any other soft cover version.

The de-icer found in windshield fluid (etc.) is really only helpful on flimsy ice, not the sort you were referencing.

But! Sometimes! If the temp is right and the snow is heavy enough, it is easier to wait for it all to accumulate and get it all off in one go. This is where experience comes to play.

Cardboard boxes deconstructed so they are flat can be leaned against the windshield when you know freezing rain is predicted make sure the shed are hanging off/wider than the windshield.
On bad snow days, sometimes it is worth it to go out several times during day to clear off car.

For the worst type of ice on windshield — the freezing rain kind which seems permanently fused to the window — you want to run the car with heat blasting at the windshield. You also want to use the edge of the scraper to make lines through the ice in hopes you can get underneath it w/ the scraper.

De-icers are only good for locks. Anything purporting to help with the windshield/windows does not help, in my estimation.
You will learn there are many, many different “types” of ice and they each require different types of scraping — and walking.

Ok. Not all glass scrapers for are created equal, though all are plastic: you want two: one with a long handle and not-narrow “blade” part and another with short handle for if (when) you need to scrape ice off the inside of your car.
Both should have some heft to them, not feel too flimsy.

Jeans are possibly the worst options in extreme cold. Layer stretchy stuff — with silk or wool as base if possible but tights/leggings also ok — and something with wind-break qualities on top if outside for any period.

We at Current Affairs want to pick up the slack by expanding book reviews. Writers: pitch us anytime! And if you subscribe/donate we'll use the funding to commission book coverage.

While reporting this, I had something happen that's never happened. A comms rep for one of the co's disputed my reporting and said what I was telling them was untrue because it was not in Grok, xAI's chatbot.
I was looking directly at the files. And this person was using AI to challenge the truth.

Jeffrey Bezos is destroying the Washington Post for the same reason Musk destroyed Twitter and Ellison is destroying CBS—oligarchs oppose the free press when if it threatens their wealth and power.
They don’t want normal people to see what is happening in America.

Trump is working hard to set/reinforce a frame that connects immigration, financial fraud, & election fraud. He and the right wing propaganda machine will keep producing “evidence” to fit this frame, then use it to justify attempts to suppress voters, kick voters off rolls, and delegitimize results.
