For them the ‘real’ users are people building at AT Protocol. Around the pancake debacle I think the CEO herself said they don’t care if all the other users disappeared, as they’re funded to build the former. So… yeah.

My understanding from previous similar events is that it’s because they don’t think of themselves as providing a service to users; but rather as purely engineers & stewards of The Protocol, and users are merely an incidental annoyance that Want Things. Mad but only way it makes sense.
Ohh instant buy of this one, LOK was wonderful!
But put my in a party situation where I don’t know many people? With loud music and other sensorily overwhelming factors? I’ll struggle to mingle & think of benign questions to keep asking + probably shut down after less than 2 hours. I can’t even talk to my partner when I get to that stage.
That’s exactly it. I can appear very socially adapt in work settings, partly because I’ve literally trained myself over the 14 years in the UK on the rules of small talk & phrases that people use (none of it was natural, both culturally & neurologically!) & partly as I’m interested in the topics
Yeah big thing in Poland, although it’s pretty much just a powdered veg stock (rather than in cube form)
You’re confused, that’s the other side of the body ☺️
Connecting those synapses in novel way, clearing others… what’s not to love
Oh yeah, I’m very aware of the shenanigans of the Behaviour Tzar, unfortunately.
So then in the end only goes by her own readings/ assumptions/ cherry picked studies & data? Hugely strange, although would make sense if she’s a big positivist and doesn’t really get the constructivist ideas & importance of positionality when reading that stuff. But equally sees limitations of DSM
There’s this weird dichotomy when she doesn’t accept the social model since she bases her understanding entirely on ‘official’ diagnostic criteria and doesn’t believe or listen to the phenomenological exp of ADHD/autistic adults, but also want to refuse the ‘labels’ coming from the medical model.
I sort of get that, but of course then she has to put the onus on the child to change & ‘overcome their limitations’ – vs societal support & understanding. Takes away the political by making it entirely personal & takes away potential for finding community & others like you. Which I’m sure you know!
It's just sad to see how many adult ADHD & autistic people are still trying to get through to her & try to reach her in good faith, only to be completely ignored or argued with. Genuinely baffling; someone should research psychology of THAT. And you're right that the behaviour of TERFs is comparable
But she starting off talking about low demand parenting, following the lead of the child & meeting them where they are! Truly a monumental slide into la la land from there.
Nooo see it's 'hopeful neuroplasticity' 🌈 hoping that the 'symptoms' & 'behaviours' go away 🥰
Mhm.
No see but that's pesky adults that are bullying her, and they just don't understand the childrens' experience that she's protecting from irreperable harm of thinking they're neurodivergent!
So happy for you! And them! Imagine if they may actually avoid major trauma, and we may have a whole new generation that's happy in their skin from the start; wouldn't that be just lovely?
help me understand your comment as I am confused. Is it your belief that 'ADHD' refers to a fundamental neurological wiring that remains constant across the lifespan, no matter whether the person appears to demonstrate symptoms of ADHD or not? So you do not think that the psychiatric diagnostic criteria are necessarily valid, but you think that 'ADHD' exists separately from the diagnostic criteria? If so, how can we identify which people have this 'mindbody wiring' if it's not reflected in their behaviour?
One of the comments in the thread 🙃🙃
She also started arguing with me in the comments saying that the only way to assess ADHD is behavioural as we (clinicians) cannot have access to the inner world of patients; I really wish she were joking. She didn't reply when I mentioned that ADHD clinicians exist and are developing other methods
I wish I were joking. Unfortunately, it does seem that a lot of her positions are also based on a complete misunderstanding, whether willful or not, of what ADHD or autistic adults are saying (or outright ignoring it, since she only deals with children and that's different, right 🙃)
so it's not fair on children to tell them that their brain is wired differently or that they're neurodivergent as that may change and it's not a healthy narrative, apparently 🫠 since you know, ADHD means that they 'can't focus' and you're then telling them that 'they'll never be able to focus' 2/2
She's also been making posts on LinkedIn about how apparently we shouldn't think of ADHD as neurodevelomental as 'the latest research' is showing that the brain has got a lot of neuroplasticity and the 'symptoms' & 'behaviours' may fluctuate over time 1/2
I'll have to squeeze it in between a busy Glasgow Film Festival weekend schedule 😆 but nothing like a deadline.
Ohhh I wasn't going to, but now I wonder if I could submit something around narratives & mediation 🤔 thanks for the nudge and good luck!
lol
Doesn’t mean it’s not worth trying to legislate against, mind you.
I’ve already heard that vape companies are putting USB ports on single use vapes to pretend that they’re no longer single use 😅
