Chart showing lifetime average GDP growth for Brits by year of birth. 20-year-old Brits have experienced an average of 1.4% growth, compared with 2.4% for 75-year-olds

Part of the issue is a lack of growth. A recent study showed that cohorts who experience more GDP growth in their lifetimes are more likely to trust the government and have positive perceptions of their living standards. academic.oup.com/qje/advance-... In Britain, such voters are dying out

So, @persuasionuk.bsky.social and @steveakehurst.bsky.social have done it again.

Essential reading for all those actively contemplating what we can and should do about the ‘revolt on the left’.

Labour is suffering from a bad case of “long Morgan” Chasing Reform voters on immigration is a bad strategy that is being badly executed by this government

Labour needs to recover from “Long Morgan”, as I wrote for the New Statesman:

France is increasing the size of its nuclear deterrent and participating in a new "advanced deterrence" strategy with eight other European countries – including the UK.

It would be interesting and instructive to find out if @zackpolanski.bsky.social and the Green Party support or oppose this.

Things continue to go badly for Labour By Stephen Fisher, 27 February 2026 Yesterday Labour lost the Gorton and Denton parliamentary by-election. This was a constituency were they took 50.8% of the vote at the 2024 general ele…

New post by me on how and why support for Labour has dropped since the general election, and how the Green by-election win yesterday increases the chances of a Reform majority at the next GE because tactical coordination failure on the left is now more likely.

This goes to something @jillongovt.bsky.social taught me soon after I joined IfG - no matter how long something has been discussed and played around with in government, the only test is how it is received in the real world.

‘Is university still worth it?’ is the wrong question The graduate earnings premium isn’t really measuring what most people think

Turns out (says @jburnmurdoch.ft.com) it's not so much an oversupply of graduates in the UK (the same would be true of other similar countries but it's not) as an undersupply of the kind of jobs that a better-performing, more productive economy would supply.

I reckon the last time the son of a sovereign was taken into custody in Britain was the Duke of Monmouth in 1685.

Matt Goodwin’s Reform UK campaign manager said he ‘would never touch a Jewish woman’ - The Jewish Chronicle Adam Mitula, who is canvassing for the party in Gorton and Denton, also tweeted that the six million who died in the Holocaust only included ‘some Jews’

Has anyone asked Goodwin or Farage about this yet?

Astonishing it wasn't raised at Farage's press conference..

That Goodwin would attract like-minded racists, bigots and neo-Nazi adjacent lowlifes was predictable.

That the BBC, Times, etc would entirely ignore this...was also predictable.
