So much of LA is a grid and everyone is on the major streets. Barring a few choke points the neighborhoods are almost always fairly car free. Gotta know the streets like a cabby.
We've definitely noticed an improvement in how we're treated by cars with the extra 10 mph or so the ebike adds.

Lived in LA 20 years and haven't owned a car the whole time. Saved so much money that way. Mostly traveled by vehicular cycling.
Since acquiring a long range cargo ebike it's made using transit so sporadic as to be negligible, and decreased travel times by almost half. Best purchase ever.
Err, drown.
The system was flawed and rickety before, but now it is being actively sabotaged not the maximum gains of the few at the expensive of the many.
That's not in the calculus right now though.
The system is collapsing.
All of them are.
The people making decisions right now are grabbing what they can before running to their own personal life boats so they can watch the rest of us down.
They want to devalue all labor.
That is the end goal.
All profit. No expense.
The issue they haven't solved yet:
No customers.
Humans need stuff. It's why work exists.
Skilled technical labor is expensive.
But who buys things when no one is employed?
This non answer really shows how little artists are valued as a professional class, especially by messaging apparatus of the billionaire class.
"Oh, the slop machines are killing your industry and livelihood with no replacement but not the demands on your wallet? Tough."
We need a society that values art. That values creativity and the labor involved. That values examining hard concepts and not just narrative imagery. That values ideas and not just a narrow idea of what technical skill is (that, sadly, AI is getting better at replicating). Artists deserve respect.
Broke people don't want to think about luxuries, survival comes first.
For the less broke, art might be a want but the housing crisis means a lot of people don't have walls to hang art or extra space for sculpture.
These things, plus the cultural idea that art is for the rich, harm us all.
The pandemic, AI, current world climate etc. are all pressures that affect artists careers. One that isn't mentioned is that getting regular people to purchase art, a staple of everything/mid level artist financials, had receded like an ebb tide. People are broke. Art is considered a luxury.
What a non-answer.
Artists make art for the love of art, sure.
That still doesn't cover the material realities of existing in a world that monetizes everything, deliberately creates hurdles ($) to connecting with audiences, and the need for artists to be able to afford to survive and keep making art
It's always funny what gets left out of "tradition" and "the West"
Mesopotamia: Reams of poetry written by a trans woman, epic about trauma, grief and failure.
Greece: Queer loss and the futile brutality of war, societies brought to ruin by aristocratic pride. Also everything Sappho wrote.
Anyone paying attention to the un-personing of trans people? #transrights #translivesmatter
It works just fine for the donors propping up controlled opposition behind the scenes.
The one you imagined had agency and wasn't taking feet pics for fascists. Far superior.
It was also our roommate's 21st birthday. And as everyone forgot to finish the prep for the party, we did.
Same kind of thing.
Someone has to keep the world rolling when everything falls apart.
The more of us trying to be one of those someones, the easier it will be to get through this hellworld.
First freshman year of college.
It was a beautiful day.
Walked out of our early class and watched the second impact live on a lobby TV.
Near Boston, where the flights left from. Living with New Yorkers, and knowing a bunch of our HS friends joined up in the last year.
It was a fucked up day.
I do not know how you can look at this situation and think the institutions enabling this and unable to stop it are redeemable
Same with the economy of course
The curtains are so it can't see him commit atrocities.
One platformed by major papers like the NYT, because their editorial staff is extremely bigoted towards trans people.
Well, punching our gonads didn't right the ship, but punching a needle full of estrogen into our thigh and shoving some prog up the back did.
Sex hormones are such a complicated intertwined puzzle it's amazing reproduction works at all.
Phantom testicle sensations are so weird.
Especially when you never actually had testis.
Having weird genital plumbing that just suddenly starts aching out of nowhere and keeps going all day is super distracting.
Almost as much as a vagina you can't quite reach.
Be real nice if the DX process could speed up a bit so we can start talking about bottom surgery.
Iβm starting to think none of these billionaire guys should have any money or power. seems bad.
I might have dropped out of seminary, but this man was speaking the gospel here.
Capitalism is the preferred tool by a network of pedophile billionaires to rule the planet & impoverish you, why do so many centrists still insist on supporting it?
Consider instead the beliefs the wealthy have tried to train you to be afraid of:
Socialism. Communism. Anarchism. Total Liberation.
<*smacks itself in xer mutant baby box hoping some percussive maintenance will fix things*>
The richest people on earth have decided to use their billions sort of secretly persecuting one of the smallest and poorest demographics.
They could be using that money to end homelessness and hunger or cure cancer.
You don't become a billionaire without being, at least in part, a complete monster.
