The June 6, 1944, D-Day assault on Normandy, France, reminds me of the men and women who selflessly fought to stop Hitler and preserve freedom. Recently walking on Omaha Beach and through the nearby American Cemetary was humbling. I share my photos in honor of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Listen to this bald eagle sing her mating call. Bald eagles can grow 2-3 feet high with wingspans as wide as eight feet. They mate for life. Females lay two or three eggs. In the wild, bald eagles can live 20-30 years.

Erin, thanks! A year or two ago, I raced in darkness to the beach to capture the fast-moving moon as it set over the Olympics. The sun rising behind me briefly painted the horizon pink as beams of moonlight reflected across the pastel water to me, a bird flew into view, and a wave kissed the shore.
“By firing us, you’re going to cut down on how much revenue the country brings in,” said an axed IRS specialist who’d been brought in to audit complex tax returns filed by large corporations and wealthy individuals. “This was not about saving money.”
