I love where you're going with this research! I think it could be really fruitful. Of all the types of redactions I run into in sanitized documents, the names of companies are both the most annoying and feel the least justified after so many decades. Important work, imho.

On the subject of paper, I recall reading state department docs about Colombia from like 1946 that went into a lot of detail about US exports of newsprint and who was on the receiving end. I don't believe I scanned those, so can't easily go check, but choosing who can communicate what in the 1/
