My less charitable thought on that, people don't want to be "brainless sheeple who vote blue no matter who", and the Libs care about things and actually bleed when you cut them.
To solve the "purity" argument, if you don't vote you're endorsing literally everyone on the ballot. "I don't care what's on the pizza, it's all good!"
You can't not eat whatever pizza arrives, you're forced to live under whatever gov't gets elected. Not voting doesn't make you less complicit.
