Had a lovely birth chart reading today. I've been fucking around with astrology for around 6 months. After spending my early years in a demanding religion I take any new system very softly into my life, I'm always ready to leave behind what doesn't serve. But it's serving!

Matt, this is so terrible!!! I was at nymag for a while and honestly i don't understand how they are going to keep vulture as one of my favorite things to read if they keep getting rid of the people who make it that.

A group of 14 year olds play D&D in my house every Saturday and I have to ask if it's normal for it to be 90% yelling.

Gosling has had some eras.

It's fun that my kids are getting older and now we have conversations like tonight where I explained to them the history of Ryan Gosling's career.

It's so good, I enjoyed it so much, and it is very good at slowly bringing you closer to the center of what it's doing (until it stops being slow)

Everyone HATES this guy, and also thinks he has no idea what he's doing. I know Hollywood tends to be gossipy but there are a lot of loose lips here and they do not have good things to say. (Also I'm pretty sure they're all right.)

This guy, who somehow is a practicing lawyer, wrote a memo using multiple AI tools and then asked the AI's to confirm each other's accuracy. Spoiler: it didn't work.

My dude. The AI is not the one who is signing their name and their bar number at the end of this memo.

Oh this book is really good!!

Ok it looks like the problem is that Swiss law is not gonna help us. The Swiss are just giving the FBI whatever they ask for? I still need more context tho. Cuz what's the point of not giving anything to the US authorities if they get it anyway?

My doctor has a new robot taking calls. It even has fake typing noises. It works better than the old robots, but I called about mild stomach pain and twice it decided my issue was severe and stopped its normal scheduling flow, then twice asked if I wanted to see my gynecologist instead of my PCP.

I would have stopped counting by now, goodness

Yeah and it's not just gloom and doom, the way it's like Hey actually your brain is doing so much! Have you considered that???

This is really worth a full read. I almost screenshotted the whole thing, just kept reading paragraphs that knocked me over.

I KNOW, RIGHT!! It is not easy to totally reframe an issue for me but it really did.

Article screenshot:
Others are drowning, attempting sustained thought in environments engineered to prevent it. They sit with laptops open, seven tabs competing for attention, notifications sliding in from three different apps, phones vibrating every few minutes. They’re trying to read serious material while fighting a losing battle against behavioural psychology weaponised at scale. They believe their inability to focus is a personal failure rather than a design problem. They don’t realise they’re trying to think in a space optimised to prevent thinking.

I have worried about what I've seen as my own decreased ability to focus but this article has really shifted my thinking. It's so so interesting. aeon.co/essays/what-...

Yeah it's on multiple services and has been for a while (it's on my Letterboxd watchlist so i see it pop up often!), maybe an editor choice since they do note other streamers at the end?

Good. I figured but still. No legal department I've ever worked with would let this get released

I would be calling a lawyer.

I have been listening to the audiobook of THE POWER BROKER off and on for a year or so. I'm 40+ hours in, I have a little over 20 hours to go, and I cannot tell you how badly I want someone to kill this man dead. Part of why it's taken so long is I get too mad at Robert Moses.

Yeah this is all about mess and doesn't come with clear, heartwarming answers, which was part of what I enjoyed! It also didn't really take sides in preferring one generation over another, also something I look for. (Characters range in age from 12 to 80)

03.03.2026 22:36 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

It has a lot of family arguments without giving any "oh you should all just forgive and be nice" easy answers, I like the mess. And the multiple perspectives actually made you look at characters and situations in a new way.

This Is Not About Us by Allegra Goodman, which i somehow missed in my February galley reading! I really liked a lot of her older novels but haven't been as interested lately. This was a rich set of connected stories of one Jewish family with lots of characters. Reminded me why i like her!

Absolutely tearing through a novel. Started yesterday, may well finish tonight. No feeling like it.
