We also show that strong postzygotic isolation in the wild is driven primarily by chromosomal inversions rather than SNP divergence, that within species “hotter is better” but not “hotter is wider,” and that lineage-specific maltose specialization is linked to functional MAL⁺ alleles.

With the @rokaslab.bsky.social, three novel whole genome duplication (WGD) events were discovered in the Saccharomycotina yeast species in the Dipodascales
clade. Before now, only four WGD events were known in fungi. This work suggests WGD may be underreported.
