My first Villa Park game was 57 years ago almost to the day. So many memories as we commemorated 150 years of @avfc-official.bsky.social tonight. Great to get the win and to be able to share an emotional night on The Holte with my sons and grandson. We did not choose, we were chosen #avfc

I suspect other factors are at play too, lack of access to meaningful and person centred social work, access to advocacy support, ad hoc eligibility decisions at funding panels and a a system that for most is confusing, impenetrable and consequentlyβimpossibleβ to navigate #socialcare

Why work in social care, even if youβre paid the real living wage of Β£12.60ph, most get minimum wage, jobs laden with regulation, responsibility & accountability when with no experience you can work in a supermarket warehouse and earn Β£16.48ph? Is putting in funds now to pay a highly skilled workforce a fair wage chucking money at it? For most all they get is the minimum wage for a job that comes with considerable responsibility and accountability. Stabilising the workforce should be a priority of Govt. ahead of the review

The crisis is now not in 2028, I donβt think, unless youβre deeply invested in social care, that people grasp that. If social care collapses so does the NHS. The sector needs stabilising before Govt. Set about βdiscoveringβ what is already known

This, the money is there, but the political will is sadly lacking. Remember the solution is always political and ideological #socialcare #socialcarecrisis

Pleased Baroness Casey is leading this but we canβt wait until 2028 and then keep our π€ crossed the next parliament acts on recommendations. We can only hope Caseyβs interim report triggers early reform, in the meantime funds are made available to pay a highly skilled workforce a decent living wage

The total intellectual vacuum amongst our politicians www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/01... Wes Streeting might manage to produce a social care plan by 2028. By then, Labour will be in its last inglorious days in office. How did people as incompetent as this ever reach high office in the UK?
