Sorry, pressed "send" too soon! The pieces do look fascinating but they're annoyingly light on detail.

Honestly if they'd listened to that the whole thing would probably have been funded, I suspect - from what I remember it was pretty close

Oh wow, where to start
I was not the lead applicant, but was part of a bid to eradicate invasive Cx. quinquefasciatus to save a bunch of bird species on Hawaii from extinction. Their current high altitude refuges are disappearing fast due to climate change. That one really hurt.

HG Wells famously hated the place so much when he lived there he made it the first place the Martians destroy in War of the Worlds
It's not terrible, honestly, just also not very exciting

It's about chemicals not headphones tbh, I don't think there's *any* evidence in humans
(That doesn't mean it's not having an effect of course, human studies are just harder to run)
So tl;dr stop eating so many headphones - I've got it down to three pairs a week now!

She mentioned that tuna trapping was introduced to the region around then so the alternative is they were catching fish and... maybe preserving and exporting everything?

Jasmine Lundy (UoY) mentioned a similar finding for organic residue analysis of cooking pots in medieval Sicily in her talk at the York CafΓ© Scientifique last week, but we wondered if that might not simply be that fish wasn't typically cooked using pots?

Nerds assemble! I need recommendations for a speaker who can talk not only about the growth in awareness of ADHD/autism in the UK, and the importance of accommodations etc., but also the sociological aspects of underdiagnosis/stigma in women/minority communities etc.
Pls repost for wider reach, ta.

2026 is proving to be a wonderful year for first time fungi finds so far. Looks like this is the rarely recorded Henningsomyces candidus - tiny little macaroni-like tubes found on a very rotten piece of wood in Southeast England. #fungifriends #fungi #mycology #naturephotography

I did a copper smelting and casting course at @butserancientfarm.co.uk years ago
We started by smashing up a few kg of imported jewellery-grade malachite, which they explained was because basically all copper ore in the UK contains various nasties making it unwise to smelt
Mostly arsenic iirc?

Once in Oxford my now-wife and I attended a lecture by Jane Goodall. It massively overran so we snuck out before the end and bumped into Richard Dawkins and Lalla Ward doing the same thing. They gave us a sheepish look and my other half told Lalla she really loved her embroidery books.

Photo of 9 slime mold sporangia that look like tiny, orange hot air balloons lined up in a somewhat disorderly row. The sporangia are on dark coloured, dead wood with bright green moss behind them.
Slime mold, Trichia decipiens in front of bright green #moss. NWT, Canada.
#myxomycete #fungifriends
The slime mold is about 0.5cm high.

Prompted a lot of questions answered by the t-shirt, I suppose.
