So am I the only one from the Matrix film generation that finds it incredibly creepy that somehow the term AI "agents" has taken root? I mean is this coincidence?🤔😂😂😂

👇I want to share this great recent article by Markus Keller. Nuanced, complete, and concise, that covers a broad range of questions and well-explains (and debunks) the prevalent and incorrect irrigation dilution dogma in viticulture. #wine #viticulture #irrigation

👇This is pure insanity really, and a sign of declining professionalism. How about you just decline the review? Another sign of the accelerating degradation of the publication process. 😡
👇My friend Mark Gowdy turned me onto this sprawling and fantastic podcast on AI. I highly recommend.

👇If you think about drought and water resource issues you need to be aware of this dire situation in Tehran. I almost cannot believe that the 1mm precipitation figure in the past year is real? 😢#climatechange #drought
👇Been having some fun classes with students over the past few weeks and this topic keeps coming up. And in light of the Chateau Lafleur AOC exit I want to reiterate that irrigating winegrapes does not dilute the fruit. I found this article below which is nice! #viticulture #wine

👇Regarding varietal innovation and hybrids. Consider reducing humankind's experience with winegrape growing to 24 hours, and then compare with the time using hybrids or growing in tropical regions. The laters have way more potential than we realize. Learning takes time. #viticulture #wine
👇From time to time I want to share some geeky 🤓 science articles that shed light on how grapevines really behave in the field. This one breaks down one of the fundamental reasons why two cordons of the same vine can differ even more than two separate vines. #viticulture #wine
👇I shared Yishai Netzer's commentary about irrigation in Bordeaux; here is a response. Also very thoughtful. The two are complementary; this not really being a "rebuttal". Also I know Yishai, being from Israel, is 110% conscious of water resource issues.

👇A good example of expanding irrigation in EU viticulture. Here a drastic increase in Spain (y-axis is wine volume). We are working on a commentary piece with Vicente Pinilla and others and this trend has continued; production from irrigated vineyards has now surpassed rain-feed.
👇This grounded, thoughtful commentary by Yishai Netzer et al (a great researcher for whom I have a lot of respect) is actually a re-post from 2022. Here we are again. And gotta love the provocative headline; was that purposefully created to piss people off?😂 #wine #terroir
This is a sobering and extremely well done documentary on extreme climate events.😬😟

Classified St-Emilion estate began earliest ever harvest. Château Troplong Mondot announced the start of picking, Thursday 28 August, marking the earliest harvest date in its history.

In this grower participative study on Pinot Noir, the “high yield = low quality” paradigm proved grossly oversimplified: yield reductions didn’t consistently improve ripeness or quality.🍇🍇#viticulture #wine

👇100% Agree. The AOC regulations are antiquated. Although established with good intent; the climate in Bordeaux is completely different today. Most producers lack the acclaim to leave the AOC making exits like this important in that they could influence positive change for the remaining producers.
👇Some of this data was already shared by @wineecon.bsky.social , but the fine grain data in the article is worth checking out. It is interesting in that although yes there are differences the negative trend is universal. #wine
Happy to have contributed to a couple of the articles in this special JXB issue on grapevines, "Grapevine Research: Expanding Knowledge to Secure a Sustainable Future".
👇Thought I would share the long term data. Here the # of days >34° C, right on the heals of 2022. Will there will be one last heatwave? Regardless a scorcher this season. Also just a totally different climate since 2000 that cannot be addressed via historical thinking. #GlobalWarming #BordeauxWine
Thank you to Suzanne Mustacich and @janeanson.bsky.social for the opportunity to have this conversation about adaptation to climate change. 🍇🌡️ #Wine #Viticulture #ClimateChange #Adaptation
Once again @chloedelmas.bsky.social leading a great work. Thanks Chloé 🙏
🔍Was in my happy place a few weeks ago hiking in the Pyrenees. Lots of diversity in this 2x2 cm rock depression. 😊❤️#Nature ⛰️
👇Some severe water stress in our experimental vineyards @isvv-bordeaux.bsky.social Shedding leaves is adaptive, reducing leaf area and thus water loss. The negatives: yield decreases can be significant and leaf drop exposes fruit making it more susceptible to sunburn. #Drought #Vineyards
👇Not exactly the type of record you want to break, but here we are. 😟 2025 shaping up to be possibly the hottest year on record in Bordeaux... rivaling 2022 (depending on the metric you consider). #ClimateChange #GlobalWarming
I abandoned X some time ago and am now launching into the void here at Bluesky. Hoping to share insights via our work on viticultural sustainability and adaptation to climate change. 🌱🌍 #SustainableViticulture #ClimateAdaptation #Wine
