How many potholes (aka craters!) are on an asteroid?
Thanks to Dr. Chabot, who talked about a human-created crater!

And keep sending me space questions from kids! Right now I've only got one question in the queue, so it's a perfect time to send more in.

How big is space?
Thanks to @carnegiescience.bsky.social's Jeff Rich for answering this tough one!

What is the fastest planet?
Love @aussiastronomer.bsky.social's response on this one!

You heard it on Spacepod first! New Nature Geoscience article confirms that asteroids can smell sweet:
Bio-essential sugars in samples from asteroid Bennu
www.nature.com/articles/s41...
I'd argue meteorites don't count, since volatiles are such an important part of taste. (But I would also be against anyone eating some of the sample-return mission samples)
I mean, we can speculate, but we don't actually know until someone tries a taste! But probably not the most healthy experiment to try.
What do asteroids smell like??
An incredible question from Sabine, age 5! Thrilled to share this one with everyone, especially my fellow asteroid scientists! (Spoiler alert - I was able to find an actual answer!)

I gave a talk about small objects in the solar system to a 2nd grade class today.
I got asked "how fast can an asteroid go?"
I had already answered that question for @spacepod.bsky.social : www.listentospacepod.com/episodes/202...
And it was also a good time to mention 3I/ATLAS.
This is a space podcast run by a planetary science professor.

Spacepod is back!
It's been a rough time for American science. I took a break and did some thinking, and reinvented the show around something that brings people joy and reminds us why we do the work we do - questions from kids!
The questions are from kids, but the answers are for everyone!
