We argue for universities to be adequately staffed and resourced for Pacific content and training. Permanent full time staff!
And upskilling / support for non-Pacific professionals
- culturally unsafe experiences in programmes
- enhanced content when Pacific academics are present in programmes
- a collective responsibility for Pacific development (not solely Pacific responsibility)
I worked Pacific psychologists and academics, experiences in their programmes, and how they incorporate Pacific cultures into their work
Together we highlight:
- a consistent dominance of 'Western' psychological theories, methods, and therapies
- 'cultural tax' of Pacific students & professionals
Two Masters students and myself presenting our work on Pacific Psychology Project I'm leading
Malakai focused on experiences of Pacific postgraduate psychology students
Lisa focused on non-Pacific clinical psych students and their sense of 'preparedness' to work with Pacific clients & families
