Monday blues? Not for Molly.

Our resident snack expert is too busy with her new rotatable wooden bar feeder, spinning for gold through coconuts, jaggery and dates, proving that the best treats are the ones you have to work for.

Standing her ground to hit every sweet note! 🎯

#VeerUpdate

The week wasn’t filled with just medical examinations, Veer spent some time in the hydrotherapy pool at the hospital.

It was his first time around the pool so Veer was a bit hesitant, but we’ll patiently wait for him to build his confidence and work up to longer hydrotherapy sessions.

Dr. S. Ilayaraja speaking on Veer’s initial medical assessment.

Veer shows signs of significant fractures that have healed poorly, with some bones now fused together.

Veer has long road of treatment ahead.

#VeerUpdate

Soft grass under his feet instead of hard concrete. Gentle voices guiding him instead of bullhook pokes. And small treats waiting every few steps along the way. That’s what Veer’s first walk with us looked like yesterday at our Elephant Hospital Campus (EHC), just days after his rescue.

Even while Veer is undergoing a comprehensive medical assessment, including blood tests and x-rays, some treatments have already begun including laser therapy.

Our team will soon develop a full rehabilitation program to address both his immediate medical needs and long-term health.

β€œWhy haven’t you removed the bell around that elephant’s neck?” One of the most common questions we get after saving an elephant is, β€œwhy does she still have a bell […]

Yes, the bells will come off soon...please see here for more info: news.wildlifesos.org/why-havent-y...

This #Holi, the celebration felt deeply personal. We marked the day with a special fruit feast for Veer, something he has likely never experienced before. Fresh, colorful treats laid out just for him, a gentle and pleasant surprise in a life that has known so little kindness.

Happy Holi !

The nourishing droplets of water washed away Veer’s travel stress. His frame relaxed and replenished. We were rewarded with soft huffs, it was his own way of saying how much he appreciated the cool water on his skin.

Follow for more updates on his recovery!

#VeerUpdate

The first X-rays have revealed a cracked 3rd phalanx in the 3rd and 4th toenails, and an abnormal fusion of the dorsal spinous processes in his spine.

This level of damage does not happen overnight. For years, Veer carried heavy saddles on his back while walking hours on concrete.

Imagine walking with spiked chains wrapped around your legs, sharp metal spikes poking deep into your flesh constantly with every single step. This was Veer’s condition for years.

Our vet was shocked to see these wounds. He immediately gave tetanus shots and began emergency medications en route.

#RescueUpdate

After a difficult rescue and a long journey to safety, Veer is finally home at our Elephant Hospital Campus (EHC).

Now the real work begins. Healing his injured body. You can help: give.wildlifesos.org/page/183612/...

Here he cautiously gets on the scale so we can get his weight.

Veer stepping off the ambulance and into the hospital.

#RescueUpdate Veer is home!

The ambulance has arrived at the Wildlife SOS Elephant Hospital. As the ramp door opened, he paused for a second. Slowly, he stepped forward, leading with his trunk, sniffing, exploring, trying to understand where he was. There was hesitation, yes - but also courage.

#RescueUpdate An unexpected hurdle.

While travelling through uneven terrain, the ambulance got stuck in the mud. These journeys often come with sudden challenges, but our team is equipped with the necessary gear to safely get it out.

And it seemed a good opportunity to let Veer sleep again.

#RescueUpdate During the journey, Veer made a soft rumble, a gentle sound that told us he needed something.
We understood he was asking for food, and offered him freshly procured cucumbers, which he ate calmly. We’re listening to every small cue from him, making sure his needs are met at every step.

Veer has struggled for most of his life. Now that he’s finally with us, we want to make sure he doesn’t feel even an inch of that struggle again, not even during this travel. Every pause, every step, every decision is about helping him feel safe and cared for. β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή

#RescueUpdate A wholesome moment that said everything. A moment that carried hope and the beginning of something better.

Veer stretched his trunk out of the ambulance, curiously reaching toward the world beyond, as if trying to understand this new chapter that awaited him. He's so tall! 🐘

#RescueUpdate On the way, our team stopped to procure fresh fodder so Veer could eat during the journey. Making sure he has fresh food to keep up his energy as we continue this long road to safety.

Our Campaign Officer, Natasha, reporting from the field, closely monitoring his condition and sharing updates as Veer continues forward. Today, he looks calmer, nourished, and is slowly regaining his strength for the rest of the journey ahead.

Thank you for walking this journey with Veer.

#RescueUpdate Veer’s crippled condition make it difficult for him to stand for more than a few hours. So we’re taking this journey slowly. We got an excavator to create a slope for him to step down safely from the ambulance, and to prepare a mud bed where he could lie down.

Follow for more updates.

Veer has boarded the ambulance.

Our team moved slowly. One step, one banana. Gentle words of encouragement. And slowly, he walked in.

Now begins a tough drive ahead.

Please stand with Veer. Every donation moves him closer to a life of freedom and dignity.: give.wildlifesos.org/page/183612/...

#UrgentRescue This was the scene earlier this afternoon after our team reached Veer’s location. Panic had spread quickly, and large crowds gathered after witnessing the condition he was in.

Our team worked quickly to safely isolate him from the chaos and move him into a calmer, more secure space.

#UrgentRescue Our team have finally reached Veer!

Our veterinarian is checking him carefully to make sure he is stable. We’re offering him fresh fruits and fodder, giving him time to understand that we are not here to hurt him. When he feels calm and ready, we will begin his journey to safety.

He’s only 26, but his body looks far older, worn down and visibly exhausted from years of begging on the street.

We’ve named this broken tusker Veer - meaning brave and courageous, because somehow, after everything he has endured, he refuses to fall.

Our ambulance is on the way!

As temps rise, Ella β€” one of our oldest elephants β€” displayed mild respiratory strain. Tests confirmed an infection.
She’s now on antibiotics and supportive care. Her vitals are stable, appetite steady, and her routine adjusted for recovery.
She remains under close watch. We’ll share updates soon.
