Monday blues? Not for Molly.
Our resident snack expert is too busy with her new rotatable wooden bar feeder, spinning for gold through coconuts, jaggery and dates, proving that the best treats are the ones you have to work for.
Standing her ground to hit every sweet note! π―

#VeerUpdate
The week wasnβt filled with just medical examinations, Veer spent some time in the hydrotherapy pool at the hospital.
It was his first time around the pool so Veer was a bit hesitant, but weβll patiently wait for him to build his confidence and work up to longer hydrotherapy sessions.

Soft grass under his feet instead of hard concrete. Gentle voices guiding him instead of bullhook pokes. And small treats waiting every few steps along the way. Thatβs what Veerβs first walk with us looked like yesterday at our Elephant Hospital Campus (EHC), just days after his rescue.

Even while Veer is undergoing a comprehensive medical assessment, including blood tests and x-rays, some treatments have already begun including laser therapy.
Our team will soon develop a full rehabilitation program to address both his immediate medical needs and long-term health.

This #Holi, the celebration felt deeply personal. We marked the day with a special fruit feast for Veer, something he has likely never experienced before. Fresh, colorful treats laid out just for him, a gentle and pleasant surprise in a life that has known so little kindness.
Happy Holi !

The nourishing droplets of water washed away Veerβs travel stress. His frame relaxed and replenished. We were rewarded with soft huffs, it was his own way of saying how much he appreciated the cool water on his skin.

The first X-rays have revealed a cracked 3rd phalanx in the 3rd and 4th toenails, and an abnormal fusion of the dorsal spinous processes in his spine.
This level of damage does not happen overnight. For years, Veer carried heavy saddles on his back while walking hours on concrete.

Imagine walking with spiked chains wrapped around your legs, sharp metal spikes poking deep into your flesh constantly with every single step. This was Veerβs condition for years.
Our vet was shocked to see these wounds. He immediately gave tetanus shots and began emergency medications en route.

Veer stepping off the ambulance and into the hospital.
#RescueUpdate Veer is home!
The ambulance has arrived at the Wildlife SOS Elephant Hospital. As the ramp door opened, he paused for a second. Slowly, he stepped forward, leading with his trunk, sniffing, exploring, trying to understand where he was. There was hesitation, yes - but also courage.

#RescueUpdate An unexpected hurdle.
While travelling through uneven terrain, the ambulance got stuck in the mud. These journeys often come with sudden challenges, but our team is equipped with the necessary gear to safely get it out.
And it seemed a good opportunity to let Veer sleep again.

#RescueUpdate During the journey, Veer made a soft rumble, a gentle sound that told us he needed something.
We understood he was asking for food, and offered him freshly procured cucumbers, which he ate calmly. Weβre listening to every small cue from him, making sure his needs are met at every step.

#RescueUpdate A wholesome moment that said everything. A moment that carried hope and the beginning of something better.
Veer stretched his trunk out of the ambulance, curiously reaching toward the world beyond, as if trying to understand this new chapter that awaited him. He's so tall! π

#RescueUpdate Veerβs crippled condition make it difficult for him to stand for more than a few hours. So weβre taking this journey slowly. We got an excavator to create a slope for him to step down safely from the ambulance, and to prepare a mud bed where he could lie down.

#UrgentRescue This was the scene earlier this afternoon after our team reached Veerβs location. Panic had spread quickly, and large crowds gathered after witnessing the condition he was in.
Our team worked quickly to safely isolate him from the chaos and move him into a calmer, more secure space.

Heβs only 26, but his body looks far older, worn down and visibly exhausted from years of begging on the street.
Weβve named this broken tusker Veer - meaning brave and courageous, because somehow, after everything he has endured, he refuses to fall.
Our ambulance is on the way!
