Sexual violence has an economic cost. Researchers say it’s more than 10 times higher than we think Experts are calling on the government to invest urgently in preventing sexual violence and supporting survivors.

Sexual violence costs England & Wales a jaw-dropping £400bn. The govt must put money where their mouth is at the upcoming spending review and invest in specialist support services.

This important research from @vision-research.bsky.social in collaboration with @rapecrisis.bsky.social and WBG marks a shift in how we understand the impact of sexual violence- allowing us to look at the full, lifelong economic burden of one year’s worth of offences. The findings are shocking.

This year marked the 4th annual UKPRP conference, themed ‘Mobilising a Cross-Government Response to Violence Prevention.’ The event brought together voices from academia, central and local government, health, justice, welfare services, and the voluntary sector.

Together, they highlighted the collaborative work taking place across our partner organisations and the Drive Partnership - emphasising key milestones such as our 2020 Call to Action and the 2024 Call for Further Action.

It was especially insightful to hear from Dame Nicole Jacobs, Domestic Abuse Commissioner for England and Wales. In her keynote, Dame Nicole reflected on the progress made by the domestic abuse and violence against women and girls sector, while recognising the work still to be done.

Thank you to the UKPRP for having us. It was fantastic to have the opportunity to share more about our work and to learn from others across the sector as we continue in our collective efforts to stop domestic abuse.
