A senior union negotiator has said stronger remote-working protections for public servants will be a priority at upcoming talks on a new government wage deal.
Stronger remote-working protections for public servants ‘to be priority at upcoming talks’
“It will need to be part of a collective agreement as the [remote working] legislative approach is clearly not working,” - Kevin Callinan, Fórsa General Secretary.

The work of SNAs goes far beyond what is in the current, outdated SNA circulars. Their role goes beyond meeting primary physical care needs, and is about supporting student’s learning and wellbeing.
So, this pause will hopefully ease the very real worry about SNA supports possibly bring removed from children in mainstream classes.
And part of the discussion that now needs to take place is an assessment of whether or not special education is adequately funded.
Because if 25,000 SNAs are not enough to meet the identified need, then the Government needs to look at its investment strategy for delivering its goals for special education.
Good news! The Government had paused its review of SNA allocations.
This will give the Minister a chance to engage meaningfully with schools and others on a better way to plan and manage SNA supports. And a chance to recognise the work that SNAs do, and the funding versus the needs.

"The overall concern about SNAs is that there is no redeployment scheme in place.
The Government was supposed to put in place redeployment, but instead they're cutting jobs before the redeployment arrangements are in place." - Andy Pike, Head of Education

Minister urged to give clarity over SNA cuts in schools
There have been calls for clarity after a number of schools around the country were told they may have their Special Needs Assistant (SNA) allocation cut from next September.
SNAs, schools, students & families need clarity on any cuts to SNA allocations, including the reasons why.
"The overall number of SNAs in our schools is due to increase by well over 1,000 posts from September, but it does appear that the NCSE is cutting provision." 1/2

Members should continue their existing working patterns and any sanctions for following union guidance will be strongly challenged.
A formal hearing is expected soon. Members will receive further updates as this progresses.

They’ve had enough.
Local Authority ICT workers will be taking industrial action from 28 January.
The clock is ticking yet the employers have yet to respond to this. But that’s no surprise as they've been dragging their feet for 6 years.
@localgovire.bsky.social, are you there?

Some Halloween costume ideas. We have no idea how to make them, so we will not be taking questions at this time.
- Your boss ringing you on a Sunday
- The Teams call ringtone
- A Slack/ Zoom/ Outlook monster baby
- The last two days before you get paid
- A non-unionised workplace, obviously

We're at the Dáil emergency protest for the Global Sumud Flotilla to Gaza, demanding their safety.
We've no updates on Fórsa member Donna Schwarz since losing contact. But we know she'd want this message out:
Words are not enough. End the genocide and let the aid in!

Why should you join a trade union?
Because on your own, you can't:
✅Protect remote working
✅Fight for a 4 day working week
✅Win better wages, work life balance, and working conditions
✅Demand physical and mental safety at work
