"The Complete Mike Oldfield" spinning at 33 1/3 rpm on an Audio-Technica LP120X turntable.
Saturday morning spinning, "The Complete Mike Oldfield". Inspired by my daughter playing a cover version of "To France" by German power metal band, Blind Guardian during a car journey yesterday. #vinyl
Itβs π©ππ²πππ² π°πππ€ππ§π & what better way to show your love for live music & female artists as we head towards #internationalwomensday than grabbing a ticket for this @bodeganotts.bsky.social on the 6th March.

And now lifted completely off during listening.
Feels so good. It was awkward to pop a disc on before, even worse trying to remove anything smaller than a 12".
I just lifted mine off when I changed to side 2 π
Also need to cover up the holes in the unit made to secure the VESA bracket which held the TV. Think that might be a good place to put my record cover frame...
Also need to consider just lifting the dust cover off the record deck when I use it - vibrations...
The album Affinity from Monochrome Motif Records playing on an Audio-Technica LP120X after moving the record deck to a better position.
As mentioned a few weeks ago, I have removed the TV from the built in unit, allowing me to move the record deck to a place where I can properly open the lid (had about 2" clearance before). First album I play had to be Affinity π (I need a "now playing" stand)

Ed Harcourt is collaborating with @jjlovegrove.bsky.social on her new, eagerly-awaited album, History Is The Struggle Of Becoming, due May 29th.
Next month, JJ releases Celandine, the second single from the record.
Lots of great new music to look forward to from independent artists in 2026! π
Friday night musing: a wee spot of Malbec = Greater Elixir of Nonsense Speaking...
Album cover of "Ancient Heart" by Tanita Tikaram.
Currently spinning at 33 1/3 chez Squonk: "Ancient Heart", Tanita Tikaram. And I always loved this cover photo very nearly as much as the music.
Yes, similar approach for me I think. I do my utmost to get it as I want it "in camera". I'm happy to use Photoshop / Lightroom 'AI' tools to define masks & maybe some use of the 'AI' removal tool, but that's as far as it goes. Being able to quickly select the sky and apply adjustments is handy.
An Oscarette π I like the warm fuzzy feeling of knowing that whenever someone plays the album whether it's CD, vinyl or download, they're seeing my photo. And I was just mid typing on my last reply when Andrew of @hartshornmusic.bsky.social popped by with a package of CDs for me - sorry for typos!
And what I've published so far is all very b&w... and now I need to think a bit about introducing some colour too. Separate galleries / pages i think, r it may be too jarring.
I had been on Flickr for 20 years and hadn't used it for maybe the last 6 or 7 or more, so I stopped my Flickr "Pro" payments & that money is going towards this instead.
Yes, I think I remember you telling me that story years ago π I think the feeling for us as photographers must be similar to that felt by musicians when people listen to their music. No point making all these photos if I'm the only person ever to see them, hence, in part, the new website.
Aww, thank you matey! I think this was the best thing that has happened to me for years. Have had some lovely conversations with some of the featured artists. And, it's sort of a bucket list thing to have one of my photos on the front of an actual vinyl LP π
Affinity
The story behind the production of an album cover.
I'd published this on my blog back in December but have reedited it & popped it up on my new website (which is currently embryonic).

I'm right with you on those three.
I just learned that I really *have to* check both "desktop" and mobile layouts when adding stuff to my website. Things have changed a lot in the 20 years since I was last playing with this stuff. After just 1.5 days live, I can see that phones account for 60% of my traffic. Crazy.
Just checked out the CD release, it was longer than I thought. 1999, apparently, so about 8 years after that night.
I had no idea you were on here @dilleytanteart.bsky.social or I would have mentioned that you were sitting in the back of said car. I remember him saying that "Gottle o'Gear" would never see the light of day again & then I got it on CD within a couple of years π
Thank you Andrew. And yes, all of it monochrome so far, but that will change. However, you've sparked an idea for me: have separate b&w & colour galleries.
And probably not a good idea to make it live just before I go to bed. But it's not like it's a money-making venture - just there for the fun of it.
Well, I've been thinking about doing this for months, actually years. I've just published a new website to serve as a portfolio for my photography.
There's not much there yet, but I'll keep adding to it.
