Driven past many times but never been in there. Heard many interesting stories from friends and know the turns from Batley Variety n Wakefield Theatre Club stopped by. Heard for the first time recently Soft Cell allegedly wrote in a song in Redbeck

Jo's top ten of why I love attending independent UK music venues rather than chains venues or arenas
Finally number 1 inspired by the nightmare dealing with 02TM this week COMMUNITY let's shout it. The Indies after safe friendly, staff n regulars know each other well and care What's not to love

2, Feeling I'm making a difference that matters. At the indie venues I can see where my cash is being used to make little constant changes. Whereas the chains take the cash n nowt changes

3, location location my faves are in towns or small cities where you can often find half decent parking that doesn't feel risky as a lone woman. Nothing like the big cities with rotten transport

5,
The sound is usually very sound. Often under the care of owners or owner managers who are industry professionals
4, atmosphere something unknown on the top deck of an arena

6,
Tendency to have decent security staff who know the balance between letting fans be enthusiastic and crowd issues needing addressing.

Don't need a bank loan for a drink. They are also grateful for cash and card

Number 7

10, no priority booking apps, codes 25 password resets. Failure, grey hair frustration, tears. I can visit my local venues get a paper ticket at the bar or they use very simple online systems with no faff.

Number 9
If the doors are advertised as 7pm they open at 7pm promptly. Not leaving customers standing in the rain.

Why I will always use some cash. This was a life lesson people out there are spying on your spending.

Just thinking back to my first and 2nd jobs at then well known banks. One to one conversations were had with me by the managers as to my spending on boots, vinyl and my hair. Thankfully they'd no idea the bit I spent in cash went on gigs and alcohol πŸ˜‚. Sure they be in trouble for harassment now

Just found some Circles Rotherham vinyl too. Mostly All about Eve and The Mission. Memories of lunch hours well spent.

Been dusting ahead of reunion show news tomorrow. So pleased I left most my indie record store labels on. EGS Barnsley and Wakefield feature mainly on my collection. Memories you won't keep with streaming.

There's a running joke in this house that if I like something, that means it's bad and will be taken away, discontinued or destroyed. The Ridings Shopping Centre in #Wakefield is the latest. But I have some photos, at least...

Also feeling sad in the late 80s I worked at a Wakefield bank and looked after the takings for EGS records. Piles of Β£3.99 cheques and small change. Back then a great shopping centre and great indie shops Cross St n Northgate area. Worth a trip from Barnsley. Never liked Trinity

Do find it sad having seen the last tour him using the lyric sheets and don't get me going on the Masked Singer. Prefer listening to him doing Qn A type events even though I may agree to differ. I saw a good one at the Opera House Blackpool about 6 years ago

Just feels a backwards move from what we've had a few decades. Cheers for checking

They've forgotten we haven't even got 2 hubs πŸ˜‚. The old old box has nothing to plug into. Joking apart feel some vulnerable elderly without family may be phoneless at the moment at a time of dark nights n poor weather. I intend to get the bill down paying silly money

We've all got one but dad struggles a little with his mobile at 90 plus. May save some cash and stop the landline. Removing the copper lines hasn't been well thought over.

My elderly parents copper landline ended today. Of course the new set up hasn't worked properly DIY or try to get an engineer. Kept a landline as a safety back up now I've confirmed running the phones via a virgin hub means no phone in a power cut what's the point in a landline and mobile?

Similar situ didn't want to be reused and hoped some day it could return to what it was. That isn't going to happen.
