This post will have excerpts from the statement. Text below reads: ICE stands for “U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement”. ICE is the part of the government in charge of trying to find undocumented people and make them leave the United States. Undocumented means someone does not have the government papers that say they are allowed to live in the U.S. GASS wants ICE to be abolished. To abolish something means to end or get rid of it. GASS wants the U.S. government to get rid of ICE.

ICE also specifically hurts autistic people. Some ways that ICE hurt autistic people recently are: ICE detained an autistic teenager in Houston, without telling his mother. ICE kept an autistic five year old outside to force her father to come out, so ICE could detain him. ICE dragged an autistic woman out of her car. ICE hurts people in ways that give them disabilities, or makes their disabilities worse. For example, sometimes people protest against ICE. ICE disables protestors by hurting their bodies with things like rubber bullets or tear gas. ICE causes disabilities when they don’t give health care to the people they detain. People can also die from not getting the health care they need. For example, many children detained by ICE died from getting sick. But if they had medicine, the children could have gotten better.

Some disability advocacy groups will say ICE is bad, but don’t say ICE should be abolished. GASS thinks it is important to share all of what we believe. GASS knows that there is no way to make ICE better or more fair. Giving ICE more training or less money from the government won’t make ICE stop hurting people. That is because ICE’s goal is to get rid of people of color in the U.S. ICE will keep hurting and killing people of color to try and achieve that goal. So GASS believes that ICE must be abolished.

Protecting my people & my community comes first. Maddie having been a close friend once a few years ago does not change that. I will not allow any trans youth or adult anywhere, exploring who we are in a scary time in our lives, to be harmed by Maddie’s content. Not on my watch.

It is unethical for me to be silent when someone is promoting transphobia, Charlie Kirk conservative beliefs & offering their services as a life coach. It is unethical for me to do nothing when Indigenous peoples’ traditional practices are being used for harmful means by a white woman.

For those who are uncomfortable w/ how I’m going about this—I only warn about a person by name in a public post if they're engaging in public actions that are actively dangerous to marginalized communities on a wide political & personal scale.

“A male cannot become a female, and vice versa. One can go through extensive body modifications to try to achieve this false reality, and I believe such things are unnatural, harmful, & send extremely negative messages to our children.”

“I am not a supporter of medical transition. I think medical transition is detrimental to society, in the same way plastic surgery is.”
“So are trans people really the opposite sex? No, I don’t believe so. I believe it is a mental delusion our society has decided to affirm.”

Maddie has a podcast, The Bridge, where she shares her perspectives & invites other folks for interviews. This week I learned her political perspectives have shifted to the right. I saw she made an Instagram reel mourning Charlie Kirk’s death. Saying she watched his videos almost every day.

She made a podcast & videos: she was invited to an ayahuasca experience & got visions saying she always was the gender she was assigned at birth. She uses detransition to describe her experience as healing from trauma through “the power of plant medicine, specifically ayahuasca.”: maddiedurbin.com

My former friend is Maddie Durbin. When we were friends 2021-22, she had been identifying as a trans man under a different name for 6 years & medically transitioned. Towards the end of 2022, Maddie moved to Las Vegas. By end of 2023 we drifted apart. Recently I saw her new social media.

I'm warning people b/c she is using her experience & mischaracterization of Indigenous medicine to promote conservative, transphobic, pro-Charlie Kirk beliefs on social media + podcasts & offer life coaching to people struggling w/ their gender & sexuality.

I've learned a former friend is promoting rhetoric that’s actively dangerous to trans people. She's mischaracterizing Indigenous medicine as a white person while doing so. Due to her using public platforms & presenting herself as a life coach, I wish to warn people in my wider trans community.
