Octavia standing up with cello in hoof, facing blinding lights and a faceless audience. This was specifically requested in reference to that one picture that went viral recently. I did my best to retain similar structure and energy to the original picture, but at the same time, I was also juggling the feel of the image as it was being drawn, and having to make compromises due to pony anatomy not translating perfectly from human anatomy. So in this sense, this piece is obviously referencing the original pic, but it has also veered in its own direction. I hope that I was able to do the original justice, but also that the blend was smooth and this piece brings something worthwhile in its own right.

Rainbow Dash snowboarding. Tried a bit of a funky POV/pose here, trying to maximize "coolness" points. Maybe it worked, maybe it didn't.

How can such a lively city be so lonely? Fun messing with lighting effects on this one, especially with the sort of "light fog" between buildings.

A changeling detective caught in a difficult position. A last stand? Or just another day on the job? Fun with perspective this time around. Guns are a lot easier to draw when you use perspective boxes.

In the office of a very imposing dracony. Had a weird time with the perspective and lighting in this one. I wanted to make him look very "draconic", which I think I managed?

Every bit helps when it comes to helping me keep making art
A snowy landscape, with the sun below the horizon, but still lighting the world. There are snow mares frolicking. One has its eyes on you! With this one, I tried something new: doing the background first. Had a fun chat with some new people while I was working on it, and we were musing about how the snow mares are one of the purest parts of the "new fandom". They live good lives alongside nature, lives that we can only dream of in our times. Otherwise... Cute!

Snow mares!
Thank you. It's really hard to figure out a word for it, huh? Longing is a good word, I think.
Alyss in a red dress, singing as she gazes into the distance. I tried a few new ideas when rendering this one. An overall simpler approach, but I think the experimentation still paid off.

The main thing that struck me as interesting when making this was how "frontloaded" the year was. I had many, many options to pick from for the first few months. But around April is when I was doomed to work retail, and for the majority of February-October, I was directing most of my creative effort towards Since We Last Spoke. That video alone could represent my year. Funnily enough, December is the only month after the first few where I had to seriously consider which piece was my "favorite". Most other months were shoe-ins. July felt particularly empty. Still, fascinating to see patterns in output. I'm only becoming more and more certain that I need to quit my day job and do art full-time, but that's tough when so few people are willing to support selflessly. I'm hoping to grow my SubscribeStar this year, so that I can maybe, just maybe, get more big projects underway. Less doodles, more stuff on the level of Since We Last Spoke, as disappointing as that one's performance was.
Decided I'd try making one of these, and it was actually pretty interesting to do. Too many thoughts to fit in this character limit though, so check the Alt Text thingie if you care about artist thoughts about their own art.
Octavia laying on a bed, face-down, presenting herself. She is covering herself. This is a piece I created for myself some time ago. I always considered this one to be more artistic in nature. And for that reason, it belongs on this account. When I eventually put my story to paper, I intend to explore sexual themes. This could be considered a warning of that intent.
shameful performance

A monochromatic render of Octavia in bold lighting. This was a subscriber render for Marble, who requested "your Octavia with sentimental Vinyl trinkets". I feel as though perhaps I got a bit away from the sentimentality of the idea.
A traditional sketch of Octavia, lounging on a sofa and holding a glass of alcohol. She looks exhausted, her untied bowtie still hanging from her neck. Holiday lights hang above her. Inspired by the song "Christmas Wrapping" by The Waitresses. Probably my favorite holiday song.
merry christmas, merry christmas, but I think I'll miss this one this year

A pegasus mad doctor looks over his shoulder at you, scalpel in hoof and charming smile on his goggled face. Stark, bright lighting is something I need to experiment with more. It was fun this time around, especially on the goggles.
