Surreyβs local councils are being reorganised into Unitary Authorities
Hereβs what you need to know ahead of this Mayβs local elections π

The voters of East Surrey also hunger for change
A fresh start is needed in order to deal with the ruinous roads, the litigious attitude of the current administration towards the parents of children with SEND & to protect our cherished green spaces
#VoteLibDem #LocalElections2026
With just 10 weeks until polling day Sir Ed stressed the need for a positive vision for the area's future after decades of Conservative mismanagement & neglect
LibDems will bring much needed change. You can help by voting LibDem on 7th May
#VoteLibDem
Yesterday local @libdems.org.uk MPs & party leader
@eddavey.libdems.org.uk helped launch our East Surrey campaign in Epsom.
Sir Ed told supporters that winning both new Surrey councils, were vital steps in thwarting Reform UK's plan to win the next general election.
fyi Surrey is being moved into two unitaries
Photo of group of five students walking through a sunny university campus. Overlayed across the top of the image is the text; "Lib Dems announce plan to urgently cut student loan repayments amid cost of living crisis." Liberal Democrat logo in left bottom corner.
The student finance system isn't working.
Graduates are paying more, for longer, on terms that keep changing. Thatβs not fair and we have the plan to fix it.
Parents of SEND children are constantly fighting for the right support, all while private equity firms cash in and siphon taxpayersβ money offshore.
The Lib Dems will cap profits at 8% and treat SEND as critical national infrastructure.
SEND needs a radical shake-up.
We must cap private profits to end the race to the bottom, protect existing support, introduce universal screening for every child, and boost mainstream and specialist capacity so the system truly works for children and families.
At last nightβs council meeting it was revealed thereβll be more delays to reopening the Harlequin Theatre in #Redhill as contracts have still not been signed to start the removal of the RAAC or for future operations
The lack of any timescales & these delays are unacceptable
"This is the first step on the mission to get our economy growing again."
@LibDemDaisy.bsky.social
This is 100% whatβs needed
The country desperately needs growth & the current Treasury is a massive brake on making that happen
Letβs get Britain growing again!
While Badenoch fights Farage to be Britainβs version of Trump, weβre focused on fixing the NHS, protecting our country, and getting things done.
Capping ground rents at Β£250 doesn't go far enough the @libdems.org.uk believe that ground rents should be abolished on all existing leases
The Liberal Democrats are committed to abolishing leasehold entirely

For a fresh start for East Surrey Vote LibDem in May
#Reigate #Redhill #Horley #Merstham #Banstead
This May sees elections to the new East Surrey unitary authority Council which will eventually replace both Surrey County Council & the Borough & District Councils including Reigate & Banstead
Itβs a chance for a fresh start for East Surrey from the mismanagement of the Tories
President Trump is ignorant & a disgrace & should apologise.
It's clear he knows nothing about military service & the bravery & sacrifice of our military personnel

At the risk of repetition, the Government need to deliver on Leasehold Reform - as per their manifesto
For the record it should be abolished. Scotland has managed it, the rest of the UK should follow suit.

The Government's plans for water companies don't go far enough
We must completely overhaul how water companies are run
We need a new ownership system where the money made through the water industry is reinvested into protecting our lakes, rivers & seas from pollution

We must completely overhaul how water companies are run.
We need a new ownership system where the money made through the water industry is reinvested into protecting our lakes, rivers, and seas from pollution.
Labour's plans announced today fail to do that.
