We have an expansive Revolving Fund property #forsale just 20 mins from Swansea. This 40-ha conservation property offers sweeping views to the Hazards & Freycinet Peninsula & a rare opportunity to combine low-impact living with long-term conservation.
The workshop will be run on a #LandforWildlife property in the heart of #swiftparrot habitat. Tickets: brunybirdfestival.org/event-detail...
On 20/03, as part of the #BrunyIsland Bird Festival, TLC, in collab with ecologist Dave James, will host a demonstration on creating artificial breeding hollows in living trees using a tool called the Hollow Hog.
We will list the answers in the comments below.
Happy #WorldWildlifeDay for 2026. See if you can identify some of the species that live on our conservation estate just from their descriptions.

Rose set up a trail camera in the creek to see whether any resident crayfish might appear. & boy was she right! She captured not 1, but 2, feeding simultaneously, with one making a cinematic Godzilla-like entrance!
You never know what might be lurking in the cloudy depths at the bottom of your #garden! Rose Levanti-Niblock captured these gentle giants, #giantfreshwatercrayfish (Astacopsis gouldii), foraging on the creek bed on her #LandforWildlife property in North-West #Tasmania.
They plan to control the regenerating weed, taking advantage of this fire to get on top of what had been a very thorny situation!
Hearteningly, there is good resprouting of the natives, including mature & even tiny eucalypts, paperbarks & bursaria.
Tim & Marie had just joined our #LandforWildlife program when the fire near St Helens burnt much of their land. Their new LFW sign was one of the casualties, so Anna visited to take them a new one. So far, it seems that fire has killed the existing thorny wattle (Acacia paradoxa) weed, hooray!

Incoming! A #brownfalcon captured by #WildTracker participants ramshackle_shackers in Gardners Bay. Its dark 'malar stripes' (under-eye markings) are thought to reduce sun glare, a function confirmed in Peregrine Falcons. However, the exact purpose for other species remains a mystery.
Our #autumn #newsletter is with the proofreader! Our office volunteer Lyra has been working like a dog to make sure every detail is spot on. Sheβs been carefully sniffing out errors so you receive only the best nature news.

We are keen to talk to very fit volunteers, as we will be walking over rocky, hilly & wet terrain. Due to the remote location in the Central Highlands, we will be camping together for 3 nights, so volunteers must also be fully self-sufficient. If keen, contact us at volunteering@tasland.org.au
Show nature some love by registering to volunteer this #ValentinesDay. Our reserves team is looking for five additional #volunteers to help us get into the far corners of Five Rivers Reserve to track down sneaky ragwort! Starting on 23/02/26 we will be weeding for 4 days.

This yr, the team caught 32 different individual eastern quolls across a week of monitoring β the highest number seen in 5 yrs of monitoring!
There were also good numbers of spotted-tailed quolls & #Tasmaniandevils seen, making Silver Plains a real marsupial carnivore hotspot.
Our #science team have been spending a lot of early 2026 at our Silver Plains Reserve, on the banks of Lake Sorell. Itβs dispersal season for #easternquolls, which means itβs a good time for us to pick up new individuals & take small genetic samples for ongoing research.
We welcomed long-time TLC supporters, the McGregor family, to Prosser River Reserve for some #weeding. In 2019, the McGregors used their late parents' estate to purchase the property. David McGregor left most of his #estate to be devoted to securing & maintaining land with high #conservation values.
The challenges facing Lutruwita/ #Tasmaniaβs nature are real β but so is our power to change the story. Your support helps protect our beautiful landscapes and native species and strengthen the community caring for them.

Logs act like natural highways, concentrating animal movement along predictable paths. Plus, when animals cross or perch on a log, you get a clearer view than if they were hidden in dense vegetation, making ID easier. #WildTracker
Perhaps youβve read the childrenβs book Frog on a Log β but what about #wombats, #devils, #quolls, & #wallabies? Placing ur camera trap along a log or on top of an old stump can increase ur chances of spotting #wildlife.

Are you doing a spot of gardening in Tassie this #summer? For your next #garden project, why not add local native plants? These are species that are truly at home in your soil, climate & ecosystem.
Look for their big eyes & ears, pointed snout, white belly, & pale feet. So, who dunnart? WildTracker participant John β thanks for sharing ur photos & helping us learn more about #Tasmaniaβs #wildlife.
A milestone for #WildTracker! Our first camera trap photo of a #whitefooteddunnart (Sminthopsis leucopus) has been uploaded. These tiny, nocturnal #marsupials are insect-eaters & rarely seen in the wild.
Landcare Action Grants 2026 are now open, offering funding to support on-ground works that protect, enhance & maintain #Tasmaniaβs natural values. Applications close on 31/01/26. Visit their website for full details.
