It will depend on the referee I think. A ref that doesn’t review often may miss more calls, while a ref that reviews frequently may get more calls correct but won’t really be speeding the game up at all.
Again, got to find a balance. We’ll have to wait and see!
Team Challenges is a very American thing, but tracking Team Challenge Success rates and number of reviews per ref could be interesting!
It will take some time to hit a balance between getting decisions right and not slowing the game down, I think.
MLR know this and are willing to refine it
For #MLR2026, the TMO is being replaced with an 'In Stadium Replay Operator' (ISRO) as part of a new Referee Review System!
The ISRO will not interrupt the game, referees will be able to review calls, and each team gets 2 challenges (retained in successful).
