Hey @washingtonpost.com you say your new Kash Patel story has "not previously been reported."
Wrong, we at @motherjones.com scooped you and had this out earlier today.

Feel free to correct.
Tesla earned $2.3 billion in the United States in 2024.
You'd think it paid a lot in taxes, right?
Well it paid precisely $0 in federal income taxes last year.
You want waste and fraud? Look at what some big corporations and the rich are getting away with.
THIS IS AMAZING. β
10.) And the heart of it was the separation of power between various parts of the government. The whole idea, the whole idea was that no part of the government, no one person, no one institution had or could ever have a monopoly on power.β
9.) βThis is important,β King said. βThe cumbersomeness, the slowness, the clumsiness is built into our system. The framers were so fearful of concentrated power that they designed a system that would be hard to operate.
8.) They also deliberately divided power between the different branches and levels of government.
7.) How did the Framers answer the question of who will guard the guardians? King explained that they built into our system regular elections to return the control of the government to the people on a regular basis.
6.) βThe universal principle of human nature they understood was this: power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.β
5.) The Framers were βdeep students of history andβ¦human nature. And they had just won a lengthy and brutal war against the abuses inherent in concentrated governmental power,β King said.
4.) But, he pointed out, there is a paradox: the essence of a government is to give it power, but that power can be abused to hurt the very citizens who granted it. βWho will guard the guardians?β King asked.
3.) Why do we have a Constitution, King asked. He read the Preamble and said: βThere it is. There's the listβensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, ensure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.β
2.) βAn assault not on a particular provision but on the essential structure of the document itself.β
1.)Senator Angus King (I-ME) via Heather Cox Richardson (follow her if you arenβt already).
βAndβ¦right nowβliterally at this momentβthat Constitution is under the most direct and consequential assault in our nation's history,β King said.

My mind is constantly with my trans and non-binary siblings. Looking for ways to just be present. To hold you. If you need a well to draw from - my well of love is deep. Tell me. Iβm with you and can be Love with some skin on if you need it. We are held in holding others - we are loved in loving.
Inch by inch - with others. I am not alone. Neither are you.
Protect your energy. Go where the love is. There is work to do. Together. Always together.
We connect one another to the stream, the under current that is running beneath all the noise - the steady stream that will nourish us for what is happening, what will happen.
I spent the last week nurturing and tending to myself and others. That is how I will do the next four years.
We seem to be finding each other with increasing ease. Each time I look up, I meet eyes with people who are looking for people. And we do small things together that open up the relationship connection to reach out to one another for the big things - we will need each other for big things.
How Iβm doing the next four years.
Focusing on people.
The ones closest to me. The ones that I laugh easy with and cry easy with. The ones I know I donβt have to explain why I am afraid or why I am at risk. The ones whose hearts fall, contract, and expand in the same way mine does.
