Associate Professor of English Literature, Northumbria University, especially interested in all things Regency (crisis, credit, consumerism, fame, fashion, finance and forgery). When not reading all things Regency can be found riding big(ish) horse

Let’s pause lecture recording and stop student loneliness Evidence suggests that the benefits of lecture capture are coming at the cost of broader student and staff well-being, say Treasa Kearney and Liz Crolley

"Recordings might offer the illusion of learning, but a troubling trend is emerging whereby students who rely heavily on them exhibit lower levels of critical thinking and deep understanding compared with those who actively participate in lectures." Research link: link.springer.com/content/pdf/...

Delighted to be included in this forthcoming beauty from EUP (May 2024). Quite the line up I find myself in! Really enjoyed grappling with intersection between fashion and finance and hope you enjoy amongst all the other treasures within!

As a literature scholar of all things Regeny am chuffed to bits to be invited to speak at the Beau Brummell conference. A rarer opportunity to interrogate an intriguing and elusive personality from outside my discipline.

So I’ve been asked to do a school talk on Keats and Blake and my question for Bluesky Romanticists is: what did these poets think of each other, if anything? (Please reskeet for reach - thank you!)

Dear academic Bluesky - I am looking for examples of PhD or MRes theses which have taken the form of a catalogue of, or a finding aid for, a previously unknown archive. These could be a textual document in Word, a spreadsheet in Excel, or another format. Grateful for tips!

Belsay Hall built between 1807 and 1817, a β€˜true’ Regency house? Pondering ways that I can use as a site visit to illuminate aspects of Austen. Well worth a visit in in North East, as get a castle and amazing gardens as well.

The magnificent Letty Lade captured in a moment of equestrian showing off by George Stubbs. And me on Max. Can you spot which is which? (In my head they are indistinguishable)

Look at the fantastic colours in these Regency dresses (c.1815-1820 according to labels). My highlights from awesome Court to Couture exhibition.
