People have gotten way too wrapped up in elaborate theories of harm. Harm on the other side of 4 layers of abstraction isn't urgent, just because you can imagine a connection doesn't mean you're helping anyone.
I wonder how much of this is actually driven by habit/muscle memory of not reaching out, and the justification of self esteem, etc., is just what we tell ourselves when we notice.

My problem is they're sold as social experiences, but you can't hold a conversation while you play. You have to announce your moves, explain rules, remind people it's their turn, etc. It interrupts socializing more than anything.

I was there for 90's therianthropy. The next gen don't really draw their lineage from them, from what I can tell. But for the haters, they're all just weirdos, but making fun of furries is mean, while making fun of therians is hip and cool.
