The closest thing to a traditional magical girl design is Byrdy here, and I am sure when I first designed her years ago, I wanted to torture some toy designers with the gradation in her hair.

Been trying to research for a magical girl-ish project, and been coming up flat on how design is handled on the toy design and marketing end. The most I've been able to find are a few essays on Madoka Magica's marketing and lifestyle branding in Precure. If anyone has any insights, let me know.
