Does anyone have a book recommendation for eco-rebellion? I’m looking for something similar to @madihaab.com’s “Heat Devils” from our Issue 17. Fast-paced and action-packed with a focus on taking down corporations that have ruined the planet. Any ideas? 🌱🧡

I do not submit my work to magazines that appear to use AI, be it text or art. It would be a bit hypocritical to oppose AI because of its affect on writers while throwing artists under the bus.

Good morning, on this day with actual, real life blue sky! I'm reading Remains of the Day (audio), and Sorcerer of the Wildeeps (ebook).

Is that the new Catriona Ward?? Looking forward to getting to it!

Match-box makers photographed working from home in c.1906. The photo shows a woman and girl assembling matchboxes with cut pieces of card and assembled boxes on a table in front of them. They are sitting in front of a fireplace and next to a bed which has piles of flatpack boxes, a basket and rugs on it. The bedroom includes patterned wallpaper, pictures on the wall and a large decoration in a glass dome on top of the mantlepiece.

The exhibition handbook included photos of workers (mostly women) in their usual domestic working conditions

“The Nine Crashes of Flight Lieutenant Hilla Quinn” by @trailofleaves.bsky.social (Autumn ‘25) carefully unfolds Hilla’s feelings of numbness and depression, exploring how impossibly hard it can seem to find purpose when we have lost our sense of self, and must rebuild our lives from scratch.” 🚀

Sooooo not long left to vote for the BSFA, and that means not long left to read this excellent essay for free!

You should also check out Val Nolan’s and Abby Roberts’ essays at www.speculativeinsight.com/essays

And, like, all the other essays, while you’re at it.

It's the bit where they're like "also it might snow" that I'm less excited about! But that sunshine...the horizon...I haven't seen the horizon in over a month!

In our case, the rain will turn to sleet, and then to snow, and then to rain again.

Fed up with your world? Visit ours. Picture of the Clarkesworld robot looking over at the cover of our February issue. That cover features a robot looking out at the sea while standing on the beach with their hands clasped behind their back. The water comes gently towards their feet. Peaceful ocean and sky. A contemplative moment of peace. Cover art by Matt Dixon.

I don't think the original writer of this is British. Parts of the internet say he might even be from Wisconsin (other parts reckon he's not real). So the heading is at best misleading.

Took a trip to the seaside yesterday. It started off pretty dreary on the walk from Redcar, but Saltburn was visible from the end of pier. Which was an improvement on a previous visit!
