I've got the idea of having a guard meter like some fighting games have. Maybe even tie it to your SP gauge if we're feeling spicy. Turtle up and block stuff but have no meter to actually punish. parries/perfect blocks refill the meter. Kinda like how DW Origins has its Bravery system honestly.
And I like that there exists moves that will guardbreak you unless you properly time a parry but very few bosses actually have some kind of follow up to capitalize. Most of the time when I get damaged after I get guardbroken its because theres a 2nd enemy or a projectile hanging around.
Like yeah you *can* just block all those projectiles or whatever but you're gonna get heavy/paralysis/poison or something and that's pretty inconvenient. you gotta either move or actually time parries. It's neat.
Throughout this Ys X run I keep thinking "they should really give these bosses grabs to punish just turtling up in duo mode" and sure enough the last boss of the new island has one hell yea. I also like that the new bosses toss status inflicting projectiles to force you to move and not turtle too.

It's valid to tell people "I have plans" if your plans are to sit on your couch. That's a type of plans
I do think we have to include "learn" as a part of that equation because people will hear "getting better" and think "slam their head against a challenge mindlessly until their hands do the right thing" instead of "stop, look, and think about what's happening, and adjust play accordingly" :V
you ever feel like a lot of modern game talk has people talking about "skill level" as, like, something set in a person at birth and it gets really weird to be like "ok but you can learn and grow" because it feels insanely fucking condescending to say that to a person lmao

Christine - Alligator - Just moved into town and is trying to meet people. Transcript Panel 1 August and Christine have just met at a party and are getting to know each other. August is starting to feel unsure about how things are but Christine is having a wonderful time. There's still more people arriving at the party. Christine looks out to the crowd beyond the massive pile of empty cups next to her. August's friend and roommate, Seth, is being the wonderful social butterfly he is. Christine: WOW! People are still arriving. August: It's getting crowded. Panel 2 Christine stands up from the couch while August remains seated. Christine: Better get another drink before they're out. August: Okay. August assumes this is Christine politely excusing herself and doesn't budge. Panel 3 August instantly starts to analyze their whole conversation. He's not very happy with how it went.
