To me, the perfect long-term game of Alien the RPG would be 15 sessions of just trying to keep the shake-and-bake colony on LV240-whatever alive, managing people's competing needs and keeping your head down off the company radar, and then on session 16 you get a weird distress call...

Read/watch/play a wider variety of things. You want to have the biggest possible toolkit to draw from you can, both in terms of literary devices, narrative techniques, ways of acting characters, and ideas for exploiting and interacting with mechanics.

Also, include non-fiction - especially history
