Loads of the indie films have people like me on their own and I always want to go and ask them “who are you? Where have you come from? Can we be friends?”

i totally missed that second thing!
Great policy resolving one of life's great headaches.
'My So-Called Life' at 30 - like Freaks and Geeks, one of those shows that as much as anything showed how casting agents knew what they were doing(and that writers were sometimes just ever so slightly too far ahead of the curve) www.latimes.com/entertainmen...
Clearing down my emails and have discovered the D*List - I love this for being about disabled peoples' experience in NZ but with the personality of a pop culture mag thedlist.co.nz
Diagram organising the roles of civic designers around the two dimensions of materials and the spaces of actions. Quad Institutional sphere and tackling relationships - civi designers as intermediaries; quad tackling relationships and social sphere - civic designers as connectors, aggregators and network builders (tackling relationships within the social sphere), social sphere and mix relationship/problems - civic designers as decentred actors. Quad tackling problems and social sphere - civic designers as facilitators (tackling problems within the social sphere). Quad tackling problems and institutional sphere, civic designers as advocates and activists (tackling problems within the institutional sphere)
Positioning Civi Design within the space of action and materials of the civic arena. Axes are sphere (institutional-social) and problems (solving-framing). Middle - civic design. cicit and institutional (design for public innovation). Design for asocial innovation and design for politics in institutional and problem solving quad. Social and problem solving include social design and design for democracy. Problem framing and social sphere include design justice, political design and design activism.
Also, some fun diagrams about the spheres of civic design (though i'm twitching in that I think l-r axes switch from diagram 1 to 2). From raco.cat/index.php/Te... . Second diagram defo inspired by both liz sanders' research methods and dubblerly's play on it www.dubberly.com/articles/an-...
Some interesting models in this, though I always want to ask "how did this work with someone that wasn't a white abled dude" as I often wonder if these assume even power dynamics (could be wrong though) gustavorazzetti.substack.com/p/the-10-bes...

A two panel comic book style drawing. The first panel is a console with two red buttons labelled - “admit to yourself your dream is dead” and “pay $12”. A white gloved hand is hovering betwixt the two options. The second panel is a white man, holding a cloth to their forehead. They are sweating and look anxious. There is text that reads “domain renewal”

This may sounds a bit weird but honestly get to the Franz Kafka statue on the hour between 8am and 9pm www.viewfromprague.com/franz-kafka-...
A man in board shorts is gingerly walking barefoot across a beach carpark on a hot day, wincing and muttering: "Shit. shit. shit. shit." under his breath with each step.
His partner calls from their car: Do you want your jandals?*
He replies stoically: Nah. I can take it.

Spotted while cafe writing and roaming in a small city in Aotearoa New Zealand:
A man (20s) in full 80s romantic goth regalia is strutting down the street in the sunshine, grooving to his own personal soundtrack as he pulls a folding shopping trolley full of vegetables behind him. (1)
He's making a list
He's checking it twice

Yeah that’s fair, I usually tried to get 2-3 years out of my phone and upgraded when the battery got too bad
I do think I’m an extreme user in that I prioritise portability (as someone without a car this is important) and I know others say “wow your phone screen is tiny” but it feels like small cars in that it could well be a thing for a small but loyal user set?
I am basic but I love a hop on hop off tour - it’s a great way to get a feel for both the city and its history. I normally do a full loop for orientation (city and bus route) and history and then choose a point to get off
I am on a 2 year old se that I love for being small and Touch ID but had terrible battery now, wondering if I need to buy another before it’s discontinued. I love a small phone, why can’t I have one?
It has been quite the year, so as a distraction from all that here are my WTF TV news moments from 2024 ✨
if I had billions of dollars I would do cool things like revive Wishbone and fund a Muppet film adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express with Daniel Craig doing a silly Belgian accent
Congratulations to Microsoft NZ for launching their Cloud Region datacentre in Auckland giving more Māori Data Sovereignty opportunities, jobs, considerations to Papatūānuku etc.

The nurse was holding my hand as I opened my eyes. She leant in close.
“The operation was a success,” she whispered. “You’ve got endometriosis, but we’ve removed the cells we found.
They were in your pouch of Douglas."

Something I have remembered about “tours of duty” - normally involve extensive training. Get techies on training of “public service for the digital age”, the public sector accessibility duty, devolution, ethics - then a 6-12 month uk gov tour of duty will be more productive.
One of the wildest things about working with frontline staff in digital is reminding them that they can just go to the loo at any time - is always a reminder of the privilege of tech work!
