Anime cons are strictly mainstream oriented after normies started watching anime during the pandemic. Artist alley is filled with "Anime-of-the-month" acrylic keychains and stands and tchotchkes instead of lesser known anime and niche interests because those don't sell anymore and this all sucks.

We've all seen guys promoting indie manga at an anime convention because they think it's a good fit to market their creation! It's still anime-coded, right? But the problem is barely anyone buy their comics because if you aren't dragon ball or jujutsu kaiser why should they care about you?

I am so sick of acrylic tchotchkes at artist alley!! Sadly lots of cons are focused on capitalism rather then niche artwork and printed media. There's I reason I tell my friends to table at indie comic events then anime cons because NO ONE buys comics at an anime conventions.

I've been rejected from MoCCA Fest 2 years in a row. It used to be really open to beginners and lesser known artists since SVA students tend to table there but now they cherry pick A LOT. You have to be really well known in the indie sphere or have a massive following and it's all so depressing

It's super fun! And I'm an absolute suckered for Y2K nostalgia!
