bluesky's brilliant developer community playing 5d chess by fighting as much ass possible to put pressure on atproto devs to implement permissioned data as fast as possible
If you're part of a LGBTQ discord that is afraid of community collapsing due to this,
please tell them about Northsky. We are building something durable for queer people, based in Canada, and we will have private data and an app soon™️

"bluesky joins the fight on the side of the white nationalist" is not a round of headlines i personally would want to see as a CEO or investor but that's just me
A panel from that insipid Welcome to Bluesky Comic. A little girl with her arms spread excitedly says "That's amazing, I think I'll like it here!" While a cartoon version of Jay the Bluesky CEO, also with her arms spread, smiles and her original speech bubble has been replaced by the Bluesky Your Account Has Been Suspended message
The last week has made it very clear to me that Bluesky's model isn't one that promotes user safety or security.
When people start leaving, it'll be a trickle at first, which each mod or ToS misstep, and then everyone in a deluge when enough cracks give way.
hah not hard, basically unicode has a (kiiind of loose) concept of a "grapheme" and that's a cluster of codepoints that represents what we visually would consider a single character. that's what we count

we just deployed a fix to a long-standing issue with our image cdn: images within posts are no longer unnecessarily scaled-up. that means many images will load faster and use less data. we also took this as an opportunity to improve the quality of full-size images, as many have requested! 🌅

OSS models offered as serverless products that are good enough are **absolutely** the death knell of OAI, Anthropic, etc.
What little utility these models offer to users — very little utility as the “revolution” turns out to be abortive — can easily be provided this way.
These cos. are cooked.
Great job explaining why the economy could contract

this haptic display absolutely rocks. basketball is for everyone.
At Y! Sports: I wrote about exceptionalism, dreams, nightmares, old-head wisdom, bold gambits, prime movers, half-court defense, half-court offense, the past, the future, and the absolute brain-melting stunner that is Luka Dončić for Anthony Davis: yhoo.it/4aF1Pvf
Since everyone wants to learn RL for language models now post DeepSeek, reminder that I've been working on this book quietly in the background for months.
Policy gradient chapter is coming together. Plugging away at the book every day now.
