A Memory Called Empire (Arkady Martine), Enter Ghost (Isabella Hammad), The Practice, the Horizon, and the Chain (Sofia Samatar) at the same time. The contrast in criticality was jarring. ISO more books that can serve both rad politics and its nuances AND deft storytelling (so not BOBH or Babel).
A Drop of Corruption by Robert Jackson Bennett really let me down. Why is the author laying out all that if his political conclusion is law-and-order liberalism?! Wild to finally read a well-realized fantasy empire and not get any real criticism of said empire. Especially since I'm reading

Every time I start a romance novel, I think "oh maybe I do like some romance after all." Then, once the characters start falling for each other, I lose interest. Why can't they slowly become besties and endure life's trials together? Then I realize I'm on many spectrums and aroace is one of them.

30% in and the world is so much bigger than I'd expected. The world-building is really well done. I don't ever feel like the author is pausing the plot to explain things to me. This whole book is so neurodivergent im dying lol

The second story in Shubeik Lubeik destroyed me. It was the best representation of depression I had ever seen, done with so much nuance and heart. Need to muster up the courage to read the next part. I know it'll be 5 stars.
The Assassin's Apprentice is another story. It was an easy 5-stars but an emotionally difficult read. So captivating and intriguing and profound at times. A damn good story with great prose and characters I care too much about.
I've finished Equal Rights and Phoenix Extravagant, which were both around 3.5 stars. There were elements I loved and not any to really dislike -- just wasn't that engaging or beautiful. They were pretty good books that succeeded in their respective projects.
I have hit "deliver later" on my Libby hold for Detransition Baby more than once 😭 It's been on my list forever! I'll report back soon
