So I decided to revisit my old slash shader. This new version is quite ideal, if I ignore the little things haha. I'm a bit shocked at how much I've improved. I can't wait to start putting some of these effects into my games.

Back from holidays, and made some great progress today! I was able to get all of my assets tied together with an FX, so my wind system cranks up to 10 when it appears! I don't have it changing the water yet, but it's def giving my whole scene a feeling of cohesion!
