Watching the surrender of US politicians and political/civic institutions to Trump and the MAGA right, I’m starting to truly understand how Nazism took hold in Germany in the 1930s. A toxic mixture of fear and opportunism, fatalism and fatigue, has produced a powerful momentum for authoritarianism.

Australian media isn’t covering this but what’s happening in Cuba is dreadful. Trump signed an executive order cutting off Cuba’s last oil supply. Ten million people are paying with their lives. Sewage systems are failing, food is rationed, it’s getting worse.
