whereas after a certain point in Arc the only thing that can punish you for running in the open is a Rocketeer/Bastion/Leaper/Dude with a Sniper, if you're not watching your movement you can get caught out by sound-activated turrets or get poisoned by toxic traps.

it's really good. I don't have experience in Tarkov, but compared to Arc, the story and voice acting is leagues above and the gunplay feels amazing. The level design has actual sound traps beyond "flying drone that makes a loud noise" so traversal is a lot more deliberate than Pop Adrenaline and Run

They really don't need to do FOMO battle pass stuff when the actual "Fear of Missing Out" is centered around discovering shit with the community, like the current Terminal easter eggs that just came online

Marathon, with its community-wide easter egg hunts and teams racing to unlock progression for the rest of the playerbase, is honestly doing the concept of a "live service" better than most MMOs lol

honestly very refreshing and delightful to play a videogame that clearly knows what it's about, whether it's being accessible to everyone or being inaccessible painful experiences for people with particular tastes

The Designers Republic is eye-catching but very distinctly human-first. Marathon’s “Graphic Realism” means every poster is also a barcode for this science-fiction universe. Even the walls are rounded and have reference markers so drones don’t walk into them and get damaged.

I’m generally displeased by attempts to describe Marathon’s art style as The Designers Republic. one of the core features of the new Marathon aesthetic is being accessible to robotic imaging software, which means incorporating tracking glyphs and reference points

In general it just informs me that this player is new or doesn't particularly care about being stealthy, which is a death wish even with green shields, and I'm not risking it for someone who doesn't know how to play safe and quiet

in certain other games like Valorant or Counter-Strike, running around with your knife out makes you faster. In Marathon, it sticks you in an animation lock, makes a loud noise, and slows down heat regeneration in water. With the low TTK, getting caught without your gun is fatal

My marathon rule of thumb is if I see one of my teammates with their melee out jumping, I'm extracting first chance I get
