Our court system is so rackety and improvised, one slip and so many other things will go wrong.

I wouldn’t infer anything from it.

More recently, the govt introduced tighter rules around the use of RUI, and amended the law to encourage police bail for suspects, as it allows for greater oversight. (2/2)

Police bail often has conditions attached, and has a specified return date for the suspect to surrender at a police station. RUI was a wheeze devised by police to avoid the strict rules and time limits governing bail - essentially allowing police to kick investigations into the long grass. (1/2)
