NC to NOLA via Chicago. Urban sociology, doughnuts, indie rock—order depends on the day. Views my own, but ultimately a singular instantiation of the collective process of knowledge production, so really who’s to say. https://www.jeffreynparker.com
It's not fair that someone is so talented they can write "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?" AND this tweet.
To paraphrase Clipse, legend in two games like Pee Wee Kirkland.
“While I used to make fun of OTHER people’s taste, now people make fun of MY taste, so I’ve decided critical discernment is a vice AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MY SELF-CONSCIOUSNESS ABOUT MY ow OWN DECLINING CULTURAL RELEVANCE, WHY DO YOU ASK?”
Just read Nick Hornby’s old review of Kid A, and it is the most “old man yells at clouds” writing imaginable. It’s very clear that Rob giving up elitism in High Fidelity wasn’t a sign of Hornby embracing openness and pluralism (which would’ve been good!) but rather an excuse for him losing his edge.

@jacobrosenberg.bsky.social Just heard you on Nothing But Respect, and as someone who grew up in Winston-Salem, let me just say well done on explaining in deep granularity what Charlotte's Whole Deal is to the rest of the country.
Hmm. The US is giving $10 billion in taxpayer dollars, not appropriated by Congress, to a fake board set up by the President and which he put himself in charge of *for life*... seems very, very illegal.
NBA has spent YEARS trying to tweak the format of the all star game to make it competitive when all they needed was Wemby
Wemby is gonna make the World team run gassers tonight
Wemby losing it over a missed weakside rotation is why we are here.
It happened again…
Jokić jokes with Wemby about bringing a book to the NBA All-Star Game 😂
Ant on KD and LeBron guarding him: "I wanna cook them every time."
Put it on the Atlanta flag.
F is a cheffed up Mounds bar and Mounds bars aren’t even good to begin with.
Setting aside that AI was making stuff up (because of course it was), the fact that someone could write the sentence "We've been using an AI agent since November to answer leadership questions about metrics" and not immediately want to voluntarily banish themselves from society out of shame is wild.
Say a prayer for Curtis Jones, Liverpool going through right backs like Spinal Tap drummers.
At the beginning of the season one of the knocks on Wirtz is that he wasn't up for the physicality of the Premier League. At this point, he's not only evading tackles, but he's fouling opponents himself. He could basically be a defensive midfield enforcer by Bundesliga standards.
I kind of think Liverpool got jobbed by the refs— there were a couple borderline penalties City got away with, and I don’t think Allison should have gotten a penalty— but I also can’t say they didn’t deserve to lose.
Donnarumma apparently wasn't familiar with Szoboszlai's game.
Seems clear that the regime is using counter-insurgency tactics to punish cities for their legal & institutional opposition to the fascists.
People keep talking about how Bernardo Silva has maintained his status as an elite player even as he's gotten older, and this is true, but not enough people talk about how he's also maintained his status as the most annoying player in the league. Real GOAT potential on that front.

All of Nietzsche's aphorisms were basically just prototweets, he was really born to soon.
I feel like Du Bois would have devastating QTs.
All of Simmel's opening posts would have (1/37) at the end until somebody told him he could just take screenshots of his notes app.
The best. The key to it is that he says it all so confidently and then just moves on like what he just suggested isn't preposterous. Of the classical theorists, Marx would have probably been the most trainwreck follow on social media, but Durkheim definitely brought a sort of Jenna Maroney energy.
Ditto. Today's class reading featured Emile Durkheim basically dismissing the entirety of political philosophy in a single paragraph before moving on to more important matters. It was the Wild West.
Truly just a century of weird little guys.
Methods sections and citation standards in the 19th century were incredible. In the preface to The Theory of the Leisure Class, Veblen is basically like "I drew all this from everyday life instead of what you nerds call data, and if you don't get my uncited references, that's on you. Just be cool."
Mills recognized that as the power elite becomes increasingly degenerate, it is increasingly difficult for their intellectual acolytes to formulate reasonable ideological justifications for their corrupt and irresponsible actions. In these circumstances, the power elite resorts to intellectual repression against those who call attention to their declining political capacities; that is, the intelligentsia who work in universities, museums, the arts, scientific institutes, entertainment, and the mass media.
Sociologist C. Wright Mills saw this coming—and tried to warn us—60+ years ago.
