Emma Marris wrote a fantastic piece on the conservation of ecosystems for The Atlantic. As usual, it is really interesting and includes discussions with Reed Noss, Dan Rohlf, Kieran Suckling, and myself.
My new essay on the ethics of the northern spotted owl and barred owl conflict is out with special thanks to Avram Hiller, Yasha Rohwer, and Ben Hale.
Here is an interview for the BBC I did on de-extinction (and not just dire wolves). It includes Beth Shapiro from Colossal Biosciences and others too.
If you are interested in hearing some thoughts about the so-called dire wolves resurrected from extinction, here is an interview I did. #de-extinction #publicphilosophy
I have wondered when it would finally happen!!!
Yeah, the one you mention is fake, and I reported it. But I donβt know what they would have to gain.
Dear sir, the whole point is to defend the notion of species from critiques coming from evolutionary biology. You need to read before you write (and finish what you write...)
Here is non-paywalled version for the interested.

But the species category is essential for environmental laws like the Endangered Species Act. So, what should we do? In this essay, I offer a deflationary way of characterizing species that avoids eliminativism and keeps the ESA intact for conservation.
I'm happy about my "Threading the Needle: Species Eliminativism Meets Biological Conservation" coming out in BJPS. In essence, Marc Ereshefsky provided some very powerful arguments for eliminating the species category from biology.

The barred owl conundrum is back. This is an issue on which @jayode.bsky.social has brilliantly and extensively written.
The federal government has proposed to kill 470,900 barred owls over the next thirty years to save the northern spotted owl. Avram Hiller, Yasha Rohwer, and I offer some thoughts today in the New York Times. www.nytimes.com/2024/08/08/o...
Lots of people ask what they can do to help with climate change. The answers are simple and empowering!
- Demonic ritual asking for emissions reductions
- Arguments on website
- Just say you did it. Atmosphere is a fool and easily tricked
- Instead of going on long distance holiday, lie motionless

Trailblazing feminist #histsci #philsci #sts scholar Evelyn Fox Keller (1936-2023) passed away yesterday. Her early books were a tremendous influence on me & so many other women going into field.
There was a conference to celebrate her yesterday tooπ
