Understood. I suppose in a way thatβs sort of the point β lots of people write books, but very few actually get published! And thereβs so much more to the process than justβ¦ writing a story, like you say.
As ever, tone doesnβt come across well on social media, but it was a light-hearted comment on the complexities of the submission and publication journey
Written a book? Congrats! Now the hard part: getting it published. But where do you start? Our Editorial Director, @emmajwaring.bsky.social, will be at Portsmouth Bookfest in March, attempting to demystify the process with a panel of fellow publishing professionals. wegottickets.com/event/683469

Text of a book: I'll have to put something on the form to keep you on board. Any word from your top brass?' 'I don't really have top brass.? Agapos and Naeku stared at him. 'You what?' managed Agapos finally. I can't honestly say I have a superior officer, not on this investigation, anyway. I work until the killer is caught, or I'm taken out of commission in the process.' 'Gods,' said Agapos, any resentment at being denied a kill now forgotten, "is that how it works? We need to try that.? β’A reminder that DI Drustan has to work without a Forensics team, tech support, legal counsel, backup or a coffee machine to call his own,' said Aedith. 'So, let's not get misty-eyed over how they do things across the border just yet.? β’Perhaps worth adding,' said Drustan, his face entirely straight, 'that when I hand in my report, I have to do it in bardic verse? Aedith's turn to stare now. 'You've got to be kidding." Drustan shook his head. 'I file a report, obviously, but it's a sign of respect to the elders to give a secondary report in the form of... well, as I said. We send our apologies to your wife, but also⦠sorry not sorry for publishing such a corker. Thanks for sharing, it makes a huge difference.
@jamesbluecat.bsky.socialβs PAGANS is just perfectly balancing mismatched buddy cop, noir, and alternative history
I was late making dinner for the wife on Valentineβs Day because I got lost in it. (she forgave me, weβve been together a bit)
Well I have to admit, we very much agree. Thank you!
Any remaining typos are on her π
Ooh how exciting! Weβll make sure @jamesbluecat.bsky.social says hello!
(And also, to be fair, the fact that itβs flippinβ brilliant).
PAGANS is number three in todayβs Times Bestsellers chart! A huge congratulations to @jamesbluecat.bsky.social , and a massive thank you to all the @waterstones.bsky.social and indie booksellers who have got behind this book β its success is 100% down to their enthusiasm and passion.

PSA: It has come to our attention that if you get your copy of PAGANS at a branch of @waterstones.bsky.social that has a W Cafe, you can get a free hot drink (though sadly, mead is not included). So you could spend your lunch break today enjoying coffee and a cracking good read. What's not to love?!
