I am raising funds for Bipolar Scotland who make peer support and self management tools available. Peer support can be the difference between struggling alone and finding hope and direction through community. Shares and contributions of any size appreciated.

It was pleasure to support this one from Emily. Yet another example of the paucity of evidence when it comes psychiatric policies and practices. Evidence that is badly needed to prevent and anticipate violence and distress in wards
Feelings of shame are common in people with experiences of psychosis but poorly understood. A new qual study just out explores experiences of people with lived experience of psychosis: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
So interesting and refreshing to read a paper that makes such good use of classical thinking and literature to create new models for understanding depression and its presentations
Here's an article I just published. As a psychiatrist I have been keen to understand the relationship between the somatic aspects of depression (disturbed sleep, appetite, energy levels) and the experience of depressed mood www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Great blog from Eleanor Dawkins for @thementalelf.bsky.social summarising a new study of the association between cognitive decline and anticholinergic drugs (commonly prescribed for side effects of antipsychotics) and cognitive decline.

Bias has to be one of the most misunderstood research terms but then maybe I'm biased
Today Keir Harding @keirwales.bsky.social looks at an Australian qualitative study that reveals difficult and harmful narratives around people given a diagnosis of βborderline personality disorderβ.
It's a challenging piece edited by @sbradstreet.bsky.social

This cohort study, blogged by Duncan Swiffen @duncanswiffen.bsky.social is yet more evidence for lithium as an excellent treatment for people with bipolar disorder. This time it comes out on top in terms of preventing depression-related hospitalisation.
Great bipolar blog @sbradstreet.bsky.social
Another great blog by Shuichi Suetani for @thementalelf.bsky.social . Having undergone different stages of policy around cannabis Canada offers a useful quasi-experiment to explore links with psychosis

An image of an invitation to a webinar. There are two logos at the top of the page: University of Bristol Centre for Academic Primary Care and Pharmacy Research UK. The text is as follows: Opportunity to contribute to a new research project: Management of Antidepressant Reductions in Primary Care (MARiP) Do you have experience of taking an antidepressant or supporting someone who does? If so, please consider registering to join one of our webinars to hear more about this research project and share your views on how we plan to carry it out: Thursday 3 April 2025 at 7:30pm https://bristol-ac-uk.zoom.us/meeting/register/zRQ94T5-T52zqybrZdEYJA or Friday 4 April at 1:30pm https://bristol-ac-uk.zoom.us/meeting/register/MBlEi5K3SsmM_5kEn5NbHA Please note that to join a session you will need to click the link above to register in advance. I am a pharmacist who has moved from a clinical role in mental health, to studying for a part-time PhD at the University of Bristol. My research has grown out of my experiences working clinically and listening to patients and other healthcare professionals. This project will recruit patients at the start of their antidepressant reduction. With their permission, I will follow them up over 6-months and ask them to share their experiences over that time using a mixture of questionnaires and interviews. I will also look at the data recorded in the GP records for these patients, to see what information is recorded by the healthcare professional(s) involved in their care. In addition, I will interview healthcare professionals who have experience of prescribing antidepressant reductions to understand their approach to deprescribing. I am very keen to have more patient and carer input into the study design. If a webinar is not the right format for you to contribute, please email me: sarah.c.jones@bristol.ac.uk to arrange an alternative.
An invite for patients and carers to share thoughts on my planned PhD research about antidepressant deprescribing in primary care. Register here:
