Today's bus roulette, but with the official WMATA app. Bus scheduled for 750, BUT no bus on the map and a vague warning that there are significant delays.

Person gets jail time for attacking car.
Person who deliberately used car to strike person gets no jail time.
Shot, chaser
@wmatagm.bsky.social I want more people to ride the bus, but when this is the attitude, it's hard to recommend it.
The apps are all based on the same data, and this is a recurring problem. Your response makes it sound like: 1) you don't understand the problem (no show buses), 2) you don't understand how it affects people (late for work/school), and 3) you're not trying to fix it.
Not great.
Map showing a bus in 2 minutes and 40 minutes with maybe a bus in 24 minutes.
@wmatagm.bsky.social @metrobusinfo.bsky.social another day of bus roulette. Is the bus we need just not showing its location or is it not running and we the up late for school? Last week we were late.
While this avoids answering the question that was asked, I think it's a pretty good answer to a different question.
Transport is responsible for over 1 in 10 deaths from #airpollution worldwide. While electrification is key, our latest study with FIA Foundation shows that shifting trips away from cars is just as critical.

Bus bunching
@wmatagm.bsky.social ugh guess I'm standing around in the cold for the next 30 minutes.
π DDOT was scolding people for walking in the street while DPW plow were creaing snow mountains at every crosswalk.
Yes. And one might even argue that a good government IS mutual aid
@cmcharlesallen.bsky.social You seeing this? Even you were walking in the streets because the sidewalks are a mess.
Mountain of snow at the crosswalk.
I'd love to give you a tour of my neighborhood and how challenging it is to walk around here on the sidewalks.
Cool! How much does it cost, apart from the land
2 buses right behind each other.
Mountain of snow at crosswalk by bus stop.
Riding the bus right now is a disaster. Conflicting information from different official sources. Lots of bus bunching. Many routes out of service. Bus stops are mountains of snow and ice. @wmatagm.bsky.social
Walking is all but impossible, except in the middle of the street as you're doing. You have to summit huge mountains of snow and slush to cross any major street. How much money do we spend plowing streets for cars and how much do we spend clearing sidewalks and crosswalks?
Kansas Ave lanes are decidedly not done as of last weekend.
This is essentially the rejected design for Georgia Ave bus lanes. @cmlewisgeorgew4.bsky.social
Thanks for pushing this! I was happy they patched it but agree that it was pretty bumpy. Glad DDOT is starting to treat bike infrastructure with the same standards as roads.
Now to get trails built with a high quality surface from the start... [eyes new MBT segment on Blair Rd]
Of course it would cost more, but having stations in the center of cities in one of the key competitive advantages of rail.
Imagine if the Acela dropped you off at Laguardia.
Map of Cancun station way outside of the built of area.
Map of Merida station way outside of the built of area.
Map of Campeche station way outside of the built of area.
Map of Tulum station way outside of the built of area.
Might have a lot to do with the fact that all the stations are WAY outside the cities they are intended to serve.
Hot take: Going to bat for brutalist architecture that is widely despised outside of elite architecture circles is not good politics.

Seems like a pretty easy fix, and probably less cost that the speed study. If only "make the trail slightly wider and less flooded" wasn't so incredibly hard to implement.
Great! Will this finally fix the northbound signal issue between U St and Columbia Heights? www.reddit.com/r/washington...
Change in vehicle kilometers driver, 2000 to 2024
Since 2000, London has added more than 1.9 million residents (+26%), but the number of vehicle miles driven has declined by 10%; it's declined most spectacularly in the center.
Outside of London, vehicle miles traveled have increased rapidly over the same period. content.tfl.gov.uk/travel-in-lo...
What are your plans to address high housing costs that are pushing poor people out of DC? Will you co-sponsor the single stair bill from CM Nadeau (w/ CMs White and Pinto) to legalize European-style apartments? How would you amend the comprehensive plan?

Picnic table with broken bench
Playground game with removed buttons.
Except the 311 app is broken. And so are half the benches and a lot of the play equipment at the same playground.
Trash can overflowing at playground
Case in point: the trash can at the park is overflowing, and there are rats everywhere. Gross but easily fixable, right. Just put in a 311 request.
I think a mayor could win election just by making normal DC government actually function effectively.
