a picture of a huge, low, heavy cloud of black oil over Tehran
This is the cloud of oil currently hovering over Tehran, released when the US bombed the city's oil depots. A stew of particulate matter, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, benzene, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, heavy metals & volatile organic compounds is raining down into the city right now. 1/2

But I agree with Phil on the need to improve our fire testing methods. The recent bar catastrophe in π¨π showed us how high temperatures alter the behavior of materials. Climate change will increase the occurrence of warm & dry conditions. So, we need to account for their effect on bldg materials & π.
My point is, Grenfell was a big mistake. The facade not only consisted of flammable insulation, but of cladding as well. I am not sure if flame blockers (installed after certain number of floors) are required in the UK. They can stop (or in WCS slow) the spread of the fire.
Since Hungary borrowed most of its regulations from Austria and Germany, I assume similar regulations exist there. But I am happy to stand corrected!
AFAIK, insulation derived from oil (PIR, PUR, etc.) are still banned from facade application in Hungary, exactly for being flammable & releasing thick, toxic gases when burning. Only exception were PS boards directly installed on the wall (w/o ventilation) with 2cm of plaster on top.
Thanks! And yeah, I bet!
What is the ambient temperature and relative humidity? Air velocity data would also be beneficial. What about smoke generation? π€

βHard choices are ahead. At some point we must stop subsidizing wealthy people rebuilding in risky areas... We may need to require insurers to cover all risks and all homeowners or leave the market... We may need to create national risk pools that compete and possibly replace private insurers.β

I see these arguments more from the single-sentence PR campaign point of view. The argument that there are too many undeserving sick in the system provides a simple (and on the surface seemingly straightforward) explanation of a problem that *stops* most from a deeper look at the issue at hand.
Of course, bc they see themselves as the winners of a seemingly fair system, where they worked hard and thus deserve their privilege---as opposed to the ill. Now, whether illness is fair or controllable is another matter, which would would undermine their belief of a fair system.
But others, believing the rhetoric, will to start to blame & hate the weak. Unfortunately.
They don't hate the ill & disabled. They simply don't care. All they care about is their power. By pointing at the weak & powerless, saying they are the cause of all the problems in the society, they mange to deflect blame, and thus, maintain their power.

Routinely, I am asked, "Why is DC *like that*?"
And I know exactly what they mean, and you know exactly what they mean, because DC really is *like that.*

If we still had 1970-2010-era O&G export policy, how would Trump's/Trumpist billionaires' incentives for (and windfall profits from) starting wars in oil/gas-rich regions change?
