Internal messages warned CDC staff: "This is your last warning talk to the media about bird flu, and you'll be fired and blacklisted from public health." The fear inside CDC is growing. "Just because people aren't hearing about H5N1 in the news, just because there isn't some massive outbreak with lots of human cases [doesn't mean it's gone away]":
www.salon.com/2025/04/30/b...
In the US, the CDC has considered the future pandemic risk of H5N1 to be moderate. It's no longer "low" but now, we're being blinkered like a horse on data due to cuts to departments/agencies that monitor this.

Babylon Bee tweet that reads "Hitler Defeated After Opposition Party Holds Up tiny Signs on Paddles." Elon Musk replies with a laugh emoji.
Just to be clear, this is real. And they're laughing about how they are Nazis who can't be stopped.
They brought a ping pong paddle sign to a gunfight.
They demanded staff return to work in person and now they're terminating office leases so they can't. It was never about efficiency; it was always about manipulation.

The risk of H5N1 bird flu escalating into a pandemic is increasing. Where do we stand now, and what happens next? π§΅π
Best vaccine is vaccine that is completely unnecessary because there is no bird flu in former Soviet Union.
This story can't be repeated enough. The GOP is lined up behind the guy who is so incompetent that his quasi-gov't agency did this. They're confirming his highly questionable nominees & hurting the American people.
And "accidentally"? It was stupidity, not accident. www.nbcnews.com/politics/dog...
βAvian Metapneumovirus (aMPV) is a respiratory disease that spreads among poultryβ¦triggering outbreaks in Minnesota since 2024. This is partnered with the highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) and the H5N1 bird flu virus. Both are viral infections circulating among wild and domestic birds.β
Absolutely π―π―. If we don't keep paying attention and push back soon, too much will be lost.
great Eoin Higgins piece in MSNBC
Just under a third of Project 2025βs policies have already been implemented, according to a developer who is tracking them. More than half of its goals for DOJ, the State Department, and the White House are now in progress. Great Q&A from @jeva.bsky.social:

A national park service webpage about Stonewall. "Before the 1960s, almost everything about living openly as a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or queer (LGBQ+) person was illegal. The Stonewall Uprising on June 28, 1969 is a milestone in the quest for LGBQ+ civil rights and provided momentum for a movement."
βΌοΈ The National Park Service has REMOVED mentions of transgender people being involved with Stonewall. Not only did the remove the world "Transgender" but changed "LGBTQ+" to "LGBQ+".
The federal government is attempting to erase us and take away our history.
This pride, we riot.
A quick resistance task:
1. Google Gulf of Mexico
2. βGulf of America" is the top
3. Click on the three little dots to the right of it
4. Select "Send Feedback"
5. Click on "Gulf Of America"
6. Select "Inaccurate content"
7. Select "Incorrect" and type in "The correct name is βGulf of Mexico"
that ad was cursed
An answer to the question circulating this week about whether to use US flags at protests
From what I can tell, the best reporting on whatβs actually happening in / being done to the US government is from @nathantankus.bsky.social and @wired.com
Good on them, but itβs a poor reflection on better resourced publishers.
Itβs important to remind people that everything which happened in The Handmaids Tale was based on historical events.
Margaret Atwood created a brilliant and terrifying work of fiction, but it was rooted in historical facts.
Whatβs happened before can happen again if we donβt resist.
