Female #kakapo Kohengi on her nest with a newly-hatched chick and an egg (unseen). We removed the egg from underneath her and gave it to another female (Phoenix) who had infertile eggs. We're trying to ensure each female on Anchor Island has 1-2 fertile eggs to hatch. #kakapo2026 #conservation

If you're doomscrolling, guess what? So far there are 51 kākāpō chicks hatched and thriving this season, the same number of birds as we had in TOTAL in the 90s! Only one chick has died and there are still fertile eggs waiting to hatch!

From the FT: Dubai residents stuck abroad because of the Iran war are trying to return home to avoid incurring large tax bills by spending too long outside the emirate, according to travel executives and tax lawyers. Some are turning to private jet hire in order to prevent them being disqualified from the UAE’s generous tax status, which has no income tax on individuals, investors or most companies. Charles Robinson, who founded private jet marketplace EnterJet, said he had received requests to fly into the region: “With minimum required days within an individual’s fiscal year to gain benefit from the tax regime, some appear to be requiring a return to the region to complete their days.” A private jet was “an instrument of return” to keep them within their fiscal terms, “in many cases with the cost of a jet being far lower than their potential tax bill if they miss the minimum days”.

If you're paying for a private jet to put you back on the edge of an active warzone and return to your slave-based economy of Gucci shoes and awful shopping, rather than pay any taxes, maybe you should be the one subject to the kind of brutality that the UK is currently announcing against migrants

really tired of conversations about how we need to get people to spend more time offline that don't acknowledge that one of the reasons people ARE online is their access needs aren't being met in physical spaces. This is especially true for queer people and disabled people.
