The marginal cost of gas-fired power in the EU has increased by 51% as a result of the escalation in the Middle East.
In 2022, Europe and the world learned the hard way, that relying on gas power means high price risk for consumers.
Now we're learning the same lesson again.

NEW | UK wind generation reached a new record in Jan 2026, producing 10.6 TWh 🇬🇧🍃
Prev. record of 10.4 TWh was set in December of 2023.
Higher wind meant gas generation in Jan-26 dropped 17% compared to Jan-25, despite higher electricity demand. This saved an estimated £164 million in January.

India's electrification shortcut! ⚡️🇮🇳
Solar, wind, batteries, electric vehicles...India's economy has different tools available than the US and China did at the same stage in their economic development.
The result? An early turn away from fossil molecules towards electrons.

Solar is now larger than gas power in Germany ☀️🇩🇪
Solar doubled from 9% of the mix in 2019 to 18% in 2025.
Next year it could already surpass coal.
The writing is on the wall for fossil fuels ❌

I'll end on a goodbye...for coal.
The coal share across the EU fell to 9.2% in 2025. Ten years ago, coal made up a 25% of EU electricity generation.
19 EU countries now have less than 5% coal (and no, its not being swapped for gas).
Coal is on the way out...

Batteries can also help make use of excess clean power.
Storing excess wind and solar energy could have saved Germany €830 million in curtailment and gas costs.
The battery cost to achieve €830 million of annual savings? Just €145 million 🔋💶

Change can happen quickly:
In 2021, California's battery deployment looked similar to Italy's today.
Four years later, California is meeting over 20% of its evening peak demand with batteries.
With battery prices down massively in recent years, Europe has a huge opportunity.

Batteries can change this dynamic by moving cheap midday solar to morning and evening hours. ☀️🔋
Battery costs are falling and pipelines are growing across the EU.
This is just the start, the potential for battery deployment is much larger.

New solar is driving down electricity prices in the middle of the day.
Outside of solar hours, gas generation is driving prices up. During peak gas-use hours, prices were up 11% over 2024 across the EU.

Solar growth isn't an isolated phenomenon in just a handful of countries → It grew in every single EU country in 2025 ☀️📈
Hungary leads in solar share (28%), while Germany leads in total output (90 TWh)

Solar continued its explosive rise with a record 62 TWh (+20%) increase over 2024.
It was the largest source of power growth in the EU.
Gas ticked up slightly due to falling hydro output, but was still down 18% from its pre-energy crisis peak.

NEW | China's solar product exports hit a record 455 GW in 2025, up 29% from 2024 ☀️
That's nearly double the total solar capacity ever installed in the US.
Solar cell exports have doubled compared to 2024 as supply chains in other countries are ramping up.

Until 2006, all of South Australia's 🇦🇺 electricity⚡️ came from coal and gas.
Things have changed dramatically since then. Today, more than two-thirds come from solar and wind ☀️
Coal is already gone. A sign of things to come for other power sectors.

And solar is delivering where it's needed most
Texas, the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic had some of the highest demand growth in 2025. That's also where solar power increased the most.
Low-cost solar + batteries are the key to meeting rising load.

NEW DATA
Amid frequent renewables bashing in the US 🇺🇸, it was solar that met the majority of electricity demand growth in 2025 ☀️
Solar grew by a record 83 TWh and met 61% of fast-rising US demand.
Without solar power, US electricity price worries would be much bigger.

UK AR7 auction results are out today 🍃⚡
Excellent results with over 8 GW of capacity!
The strike price of £91/MWh for England/Wales fixed projects was significantly below the administrative strike price of £113/MWh that so many reported on last year, but was always the upper limit.
